Ladies and gentleman, boys and girls of all ages. I would like to present to you, the start of my seventh 240sx project and the start of a new idea: Project S13bay. My new idea and concept is using this very bare shell as a testing platform for all purchases through EBAY only. My intent is to be the first user assisted/controlled build with these purchases only for testing and review purposes. I have read one too many threads where someone asks if anyone else has used an ebay item and gets flamed to no end by people who have not even used the product. I am certain that I can meet this goal with great success with the help and support of all of my friends here on NICO. I have been in the 240 game for six years and counting now and I would be more than honored to serve that community with the review of the products that the MAJORITY of us have the money for. I am in the process now attempting to get site and advertising sponsors to make this project move forward and the more search engine hits I can get to my project the better.

Project S13bay can be found on a number of different sites. I have created a blog that will serve as the first page for user communication to the owner and operator, that site is at http://s13bay.blogspot.com/. I have also attached this vehicle to my cardomain page at http://www.cardomain.com/id/mcampbell26. At my cardomain you can see other projects including my very first one. I like to document and record what goes on in a build and my first project shows evidence of that. I hope to get some positive feedback from you all. If you happen to know of any producer that would like to take part in this product testing please send them my way. I can be reached at [email protected]. Thanks for everything guys!

Nice. So you are going to build a car completely sourced from ebay. Have fun. Be safe.

I am guessing you aren't just choosing the cheapest price on these products, there is a range of quality and prices on ebay.

I really want to steer clear of the absolute cheapest parts. We'll see how it gies though once people start checkin it out!

Thanks for the positive feedback guys. My plans are to set the blog up with a multiple choice every time I decide on a new suggestion, and then the users will vote for a week and the winning vote will win. I will probably list a KA24DE-T, RB25, RB26, and the VK56 as swap options but we'll see when we get there.
Also, bear in mind guys, for this to launch the way I'd like it to, we got to get as much action as possible on the cardomain and blog site. I have hit counters on both to show what kind of traffic they are getting. If any of the so far 29 busniesses I have sent proposals to don't see the traffic it needs then funding will be only to my dime. I would appreciate any facebook linking to the sites. I'm really hoping to turn heads and tweak those eye brows. Let's get the word out there and around, what ya say guys?!

99% of ebay parts are trash unless you buy the real deal from an ebay vendor. buying relatively expensive parts 2x sucks

If my memory serves me correctly it was sold because the original owner couldnt get it running, then the engine died shortly after the second owner purchased it. Anyways good luck with it, there are quality parts on ebay too, so you are not stuck with just crap. Alot of reputable shops have ebay accounts for selling more product, and reaching a wider spectrum of customers.

what will you do with the car though?? show car? drift car?

i dont see why any vendor, business or anyone would want to fund someone's build unless it really serves as a productive marketing tool for them... and cardomain.com really isnt one

99% of parts on ebay are trash. now that not to say that if you buy a set to teins off ebay the will be junk, cause teins are the real deal and just being sold on ebay. now a set of bombz coil-overs will be the biggest pieces of s*** that will fail and you will end up buying another set of real coil-overs, hence buying parts 2x sucks balls

I'm actually hearing that a lot about this being done before. I am truly hoping for a better experience. I want to generate as much interest as possible too, maybe even to the extent of nationally known but baby steps are the key right?! LOL! Anyhow, started going through the interior looking for any rust damage aside from the battery tray and so far nothing else showing. I'm still debating on whether or not to just go without a dash and mount some shiz there when I need to like the boost gauage, controller and what not. It appears all of the wiring is intact, but all mechanics have been removed. Update with next step coming soon!

So you've bought every single part that ebay companies have to offer?

I'm not saying it's going to happen (nationally known), just an idea. I wanted to see what kind of input I would get from the 240 community, after all, you guys are going to be the ones to directly have an interest since the model I am attacking is an S chassis. I hope it goes well, but even if mo one is interested in it I wanna try it out myself out of pure curiosity. Call me crazy (which I am sure the next person will...lol) but I've done the whole real deal build, now I just wanna see how the cheap stuff holds up with my driving habits at minimum. We'll see though.

I think you should do it. It'd be a great help and it could show us whats crap and what isn't on ebay. Instead of us assuming that its all crap. Who knows, you might just save us a few bucks.

That is my hope. I really want to give a thorough review of what we 240 owners may buy if we want to take a gamble, only I want to be able to say with 100% fact what parts the gamble will be on. Zilvia closed my thread claiming it was spam, I tried to argue my case and even went overboard taking a few stabs at the mod that shut it down (because I sometimes am an idiot) but still didn't get anywhere. I just thought that the idea would be enough to let the thread ride because I know if I've thought about it, someone else has and just wasn't sure how to approach it. My goal, outside of proving or disproving common knowledge of ebay parts, is to find out just how many people would actually be looking for my findings. If no one is interested then so be it ya know? I'd do it anyway, I just want more people to know what I find out first hand.

So when are you kicking this thing off?

You could buy like two sets of bushings and then do half the car with one set and the other half with the other, see if they wear the same. Like wise with other suspension bits.

Or what exactly was the game plan on this.

I started the polls at the bottom of my blog to see what people wanted me to test first, but honestly I am about to delete those polls. Because the car is bare bones with nothing but tires and brakes, I want to start on the engine and seats. I would like to say I want to build a JDM engine but in reality my wife would beat my a$$ if I paid all that dough for an engine just to go to ebay and start buying all the internals I need to rebuild. I think at first a modest KA build will suit my needs and then later on a turbo upgrade. My purchases will be basically right around the start of every month, this will be coming out of a paycheck that I am guaranteed until the day I die and not my work paycheck and the first is when those come in. I'll be looking until then for a long block KA (single or dual) on ebay.

yea, building a KA would be a good idea. Us N/A KA guys tend to be cheap anyway :gapteeth: Few things that come to mind that you can test:

- Coils (prepare for flames)
- Full KA rebuild kit
- Seats
- Steering wheels
- guages
- ....Turbo kits :ohno:

good luck man!

Try using the search button. The godspeed coilovers thing was done already....

True that. In fact, it was that thread that got me to consider this project to begin with. I've sent off more proposals this week and look forward to calling some that seem to be interested in participating. I don't get another day off work for another 8 days and working nights it's killing me, but when I get a day off I plan to get some more in depth pictures posted of the shell while I hunt for any more rust.
