I'm using Routis 2004 GPS software for navigation. Very nice, especially the voice guidance. Currently in process of remodifying my carputer, probably will add a headunit for radio and ease of use. Will have more updated pics soon.

I'm working out a carputer right now, myself

What do you mean by ease of use?

Is the LCD not easy for radio and stuff.

Actually all I want is Sat radio, reg radio sucks

Can you go into further detail regarding the ease of use issues?

I think the only available radio which is controlled by the integrated software (i.e. I'm using MediaCar) was the D-link USB radio. Heard lots of people said its signal reception was not very good. I bought a PCI TV/FM tuner card (Prolink *something* XP on http://www.newegg.com) for FM radio in my car. The signal reception and sound quality were very good. However the control panel for the radio was so small (approx. 550 pixel x 100 pixel) that when it appears on my 7" LCD it is almost impposible to control it with the finger even with the car's parked. In search of another radio control software that big enough (800x600) but I'm not in luck.

Another recommendation for the carputer is try to put it inside the vehicle if possible. I have mine in the trunk for a little while now and it seems that HEAT and VIBRATION sometimes make the MP3's skip for 5-10 seconds (note that I have 275/40/18 in the rear with Eibach springs might contribute their roles the problem). That's why I'm in the process of moving the carputer into inside the car but then I have to get rid of the case.

Adding an aftermarket CD/MP3 receiver with an AUX-IN for the carputer seems a very good idea if you look at the liability, cost, and ease of use. For example, a Clarion DXZ-545MP with Aux-in and 2 preamp outs - $120 included shipping on eBay versus $40 for the radio card + $40 for the Powermate USB controller. With a receiver, you will have sound even when the computer's down.
