12,000 Kiwi is a lot of money! I remember just a few years ago how cheap the RB30 block was the Austrailans chould not give them away for 500 AUD plus shipping. Now they are worth gold.

Can Raw Brokerage get you a RB30 block cheaper?

RB30 blocks are still a dime a dozen over there, don't let anyone tell you different. The hangup is getting them shipped over here and keeping the cost below $500 per block. In order for it to be profitable, you have to either fill a container full of them or at least have some big crates to bundle them together with.

For the price that people have offered them in the recent past, they could have spent upwards of $3,000 on shipping and still turned a profit on the blocks. It doesn't cost $3,000 to ship 5 blocks.

Then, there is the demand side of things. As with most things on the RB forums, there is a lot of "ya put me down for one of those when you get them!!" but nobody comes up with the money after you've already tied up thousands of your own money into the venture.

Back on topic, parts for the RB30 are no different than sourcing parts for the RB25 used to be. They are readily available, but you need to look for them. If you can assemble your own block, then forget about it. Sourcing parts is the easy part! Plus, it will leave you with $4000 to buy that fancy turbo and a decent exhaust manifold to go along with it.

Here's a recent write up of an RB30 build if you want to try it yourself. It seems easy as hell to do.

UPDATE:

Well ive been thinking long and hard about this and what i have decided to do is to throw in a stock long block NEO for the time being (with all the goodies I already have on my exsistiing NEO setup) and build the RB30DET from the RB30 short block Im going to be getting from Ricky over at Rawbrokerage. I think this is going to be the best way to do it honestly cause my car has been down for three to four months already and im having some SERIOUS withdrawls from not being able to drive it.. and with the cooler weather rolling in down here in FL, i am missing that much more. The RB30 build will be something to behold , mainly due to the fact i am pretty sure nobody has used a "NEO" head on an RB30 over here in the US so I will be happy to be the first or at least one of a small handful..lol Im not sure if i want to do a drysump or not , cause i am still giving that some thought. Im sure tehre will be more conversations with Rob over at RIPS to make my decisions alot more clearer.

oh and far as the turbo im going to be going with on this combination, I have pretty much decided on the PTE 6765, after seeing the results that turbo can produce and how its sounds my choice was pretty easy.. comments/thoughts?

Know how you feel about wanting to get things done. My cars been down for a year and 4 months now. I don't even remember what it feels like to drive it anymore. Nice to see you bucking the norm with the RB30 setup should be pretty sick. From what I've heard the PTE 6765 is a nasty turbo and makes retarded power for what it is. I've been considering one for my RB24.

It would have to be based on an RB30 block, no way around that.

Why not retain it? It only a little bit of work for an improved power band, whether its more torque or more top end.

And DO THE STROKER!!! Be the first RB34 in the states! I was looking at that a few days ago, good to know some one is still developing good parts for the rb!

So whats the status of the car now, did you get another short/long block so you can drive the car as is or are you waiting for the rb3X?

BIG cams and it's not like he will be hurting for low end power with an RB30 let alone an RB34. Giant a** cams which don't use VVT would add more up top. I'm not saying ditch the VVT, I'm just saying those are reason. It all depends on what he's shooting for.

I'd actually lean towards keep them and just use a bigger turbo or more boost

transmission will be getting sold, as far as the electronics like the starter alternator, CAS etc...i will more thann likely be hangin onto them cause they arent easy to come by over here in the US. I will be selling the factory turbo (ball bearing) by the way, complete intake plenum assembly, injectors with fuel rail, unsure about the P/S pump if i want to keep it or not.as far as the wiring harness i will see how much of it is salvagable..i found a few plugs that werent in the best condition so i will have to see if i can replace them..i thought about reworking the harness and selling it to someone who is doing a NEO and doesnt want the hassle of reworking it. I will be yanking the transmission off and everything else tommorrow to get a better idea of everything...who knows that thing could have a serious clutch in it as well... whatever it is it will be for sale as well...the shifter is also a nice one too...ill be posting up pics of all items ill be parting ways with..

ok well i got the majority of the outer layer of the NEO all removed and got down to the nitty gritty of the block. I had to remove the oil pan that was caved in and cut and peel away the baffeling of the oil pan to access the dent to bang it out. once that was done i welded the baffle back in place. sorry no pics wasnt really worth snapping a shot of it..lol ..installed a new pitworks OEM timing belt from Raw Brokerage and threw on some a new tensioner and ider pullies. Removed the valve covers and sand blasted them and had a friend at the paint shop i am working on it at throw some gunmetal type paint on it...so i snapped a few pics of it to show the progress thus far....
