yes, the time has come to get down to business on massaging the internals on my wonderful RB25 NEO. after nearly three years of giving it hell on the comepletly stock internals, the rod bolts have finally threw int he flag..she still runs, but makes a wee bit of noise at certain rpms.

so, i have finally decided to build a bolistic missile and here is my idea:

http://www.nengun.com/tomei/st...6-28lyes thats right a mac-daddy stroker kit from TOMEI

let me also compliment that stroker kit with a set of TOMEI type B pon camsalong with TOMEI springs

and while im at it im going to get the lovefab manifold to compliment the new HKS T04Z turbo

found some nice SARD 1000CC top feed injectors too

everything else on the outside of the engine has already been addressed

i will also be adding a Aeromotive A1000 fuel pump complete with fuel pump controller along with a custom built surge tank that ive been sitting on for some time now.

i have no idea what my power goals are but im fairly certain it will be north of 700whp with little trouble which ill be more than happy with..hehe

feel free to comment on what you guys think

.3L doesnt make a huge difference. Thats only like a 18 c.i. gain over stock. I dont see the gain in tq being high enough to justify the money spent. Cheaper to do CP Pistons, Eagles Rods, and ACL Bearings in the stock block. Make your power by upgrading the head to flow more. If your still not happy with your power and tq output then that means you need a bigger engine. Wouldnt it be cheaper to change to a RB30 block instead of a 2.8L stroker?

How about just doing the RB30 w/rb25 or 26 head? For that price you could put the extra money into building the block and head for that matter. Either way it would be a nice setup with what ever you decide to do.

I to agree with the RB30 block with RB25 head. Its cheaper and def. unique and you get more displacement for cheaper.

I def agree with you but eagle rods are s***ty, anyone know the weight in the stock rods and eagle rods? I just dont get why people like adding weight to there rotating mass.

Eagle rods are better than stock, at least in most engines. I prefer a Forged I Beam Rod for strength though. I had Manley Turbo Tuff Rods in my SR which held 600hp pretty good. There were expensive though. Not sure if they make them for the RB.

That is an aluminum rod not your average eagle H beam. I am running an aluminum rod set up in my 950 awhp dsm, I also turn 10k rpms and I have the motor refreshed twice a season. aka replacing the rods that stretch out of spec. I rotate 5 motors per season depeding on how many runs I get, I usually do around 1,000 runs per season . Running an aluminum rod set up is not good for street use. unless its just a weekend warrior that is turning high rpm and hp 900+. You can still street it but the longevity of the motor will be effected. I run around still with a shoot on the back of my car and it drives fine, but I would not recommended for a daily.

as stated above, the eagle H beam rod is not aluminum. i don't believe those Al ones are what people typically buy when they refer to eagle rods. i've never had experience with eagles so i cannot comment on their quality, but the guy who runs that gtrusa blog doesn't think highly of them.

S14-NEO, what's the rod ratio end up to be on that kit? I would be more concerned with that than the displacement it is or isn't going to add.

EBE 1. Eagle list the ESP RB26 rods on their site as weighing 495 grams. 2. I had my set laying next to a set of Manley rods for a small block at my builders and they look a lot a like. 3. When my builder was having my crank machined he installed all of the bearing in the rods and torqued to spec. None of them were out of round.

Where did I say the al rod was the eagle rod? I posted that link to reference the stock gtr/neo rod weight. Forget the custom al rod.

well if you look at the stroker kit i was considering you will also see that there is a replacement crank included in the kit.

the bis advantage i seen with tomei stroker was the turbos were spooling a tad lower, if you can research the dsport rh9 r33 gtr, they did a complete write up with dyno of stock 2.6 and their 2.8 as well as show how much faster turbo spooler, then they showed how their r33 got the zex turbo nitrous kit and how it performed, showing how a 100 shot not only made like 150hp, but turbo spooler a lot faster to make more torque, their write up was VERY IMPRESSIVE in fact i built my setup close to theirs

I dont think doing a stroker is a bad idea, if you are aiming for high power.

If you want response, keeping it stock is better, but you will definately make more power and torque on a bigger motor.

Why not look at the Brian Crower kits instead of the Tomei kit?

the BC is expensive, and not rev friendly i would imagune due to stroke, unless u do dry sump, and dont wanna rev high, i would say drysump on rb30 is a good drag setup

When I bought my evo9 it came with a br2 short block with the sale of the car, I ended up selling the block to my buddy who destroyed his oem one. The block had eagle rods and was built by Dave with paper work ect. Either way the car was running a hta37r and did not last 6 months before breaking a rod. Im not saying they are the worst ever, but with 4g motor the rods are 25 grams heavy then the stock rods, when I could spend 500-900 more and get a good rod that is much lighter then a stock rod. If you making 500 or less power and dont rev past 7500 yeah you prolly cant tell the difference from a the stock rod.

A T04Z on an RB25NEO/RB30 block would be an absolutely superb combination!

Screw the Tomei kit. You can pull together great components for the RB30 bottom end AND a bottom end for the price of that kit. Spool rods have been used quite a bit for the RB30 builds. Keep us posted on what you decide to do.

$12,000?! Holy f**k balls!

Their blocks are not made of gold. Mostly hype and reputation that I wouldn't pay money for.

You can source an RB30 block (including the block, crank, and girdle) and build it for 700+hp for under $4,000 in forged parts and machine work.

<edit> I didn't realize the NZD is worth so much less than the AUD. So $12,000 NZD=$8,900 USD. Still outrageous any way you look at it.

yeah i have to agree im not digging the price either, the only thing im worried about is trying to find the parts im going to need to do it myself. i have no issues whatsoever bulding myself cause ive done it before but i was wondering about the headaches that are going to be involved ina build like this.
