I do not condemn you for wishing for added side impact bracing. I am sticking with OEM front glass for the same reasons too.
They are a bit more than 15lbs each, maybe 40+ lbs each, they are very solid. For me I wanted just a shell of a door without having to go compo$ite. I would never ever attempt to shell the door/frame if there was not roll cage present. Nor would I attempt on a skimped out roll cage design. It's just not safe. But with out them doesn't make me unsafe. I just choose to enforce the roll cage a bit more than the usual 6 point cage. I have considered just foaming the side on the floor and just foaming the lower corner of the A-Pillar and B-Pillars. Safety is without a doubt my first concern too.
Side impact is always the worse of accidents. But even the safest cars can be in the worst accidents.
