Alright, I have a redtop sr20det that is causing me some grief. This is not a all the time problem, just really random. Like I will start driving it, 20mins later it will start. Sometimes I will start it up and it will do it, then 20mins later quit. The car runs and pulls great sometimes, then when it acts up it pulls fine till about 3500-4000rpms then starts hesitiating, like imagine this sound normal operation vrooooooom pshh vroooooooooom psh, when it messes up it goes vroooooo o o o o o m pshh vrro o o o o o o o o o psh, and takes forever to climb rpms, then it doesnt backfire, just exhaust pops and with each pop comes a puff of black smoke. Stock injectors, walborogh pump, safc ii, factory t25. it is really aggravating and dont know how to fix it. any ideas on things to check?

My first car was a 1992 Celica GT. I experenced what sounds to be somethign similar when the catalytic converter slagged . When the converters hot enough the car would take forever to build RPMs and it would stutter. then it woudl puff smoke from the exaust when it colled down lsightly the car woudl run fine. I dunno if this is the same thing because your car does it at start up.

No convertor, megan stainless o2 housing then 3 inch all the way to a megan muffler. Ya if you can find out that sensor that would rock, i could get it checked out.

it was the cam angle sensor. he had the same prob...after it warmed up (10-20 min) it would start to act funny. he thought was something with intercooler and the car was overheating since he lives in the warm climate of Tampa. But replaced that and helped...hope it helps

Okay, I will replace it and see if that helps or not. any good places to get one from, or just nissan dealership? Would any from different motors work (not diff as in nother family, but like sr20de from sentras or something)

that im not too sure of. probably. you should also be able to test it with a voltimeter or something like that to make sure it isnt bad. the sensor is like $100. so i would call the dealership and ask how to test it.

all usdm SR20DEs use distributers so a CAS must be sourced from a company other than Nissan. Other things to check are your TPS MAFS and o2 sensor. You can test them with a voltmeter befor repacing them.

Alright it is no longer a sometimes problem, it will hardly go at all if i floor it or go past 3000 rpms. it just spits and stutters. as long as i dont go high on rpms it goes fine. checked the ecu for codes and got 55. how do i go about checking voltage on those things? I can get a voltimeter, what should they read and how do i do it? Thanks

Is it RPM or boost that makes it have a problem? Can you slowly rev to 7000 rpm sitting still? Can you go 60+ mph as long as you do not give it more than 5-10% throttle?

Most common bucking cause is an intercooler coupling that leaks above a certain boost level. Then when they come completely off it is very hard to drive at all.

If you can't rev up to redline you most likely have an electrical problem, start with MAFS and the wiring that as extended for the swap.

if it was an intercooler leak...if the leak didnt get larger....would it continue to get worse though? and yeah dude...if it is that sensor...u have to order on...there is a thread on the nissan online mechanics forum about it

yah, that sounds like a MAFS or TPS problem, check your wiring, and also, get some electrical cleaner and clean out your MAFS, do a search for the proper voltage on the sensors, I dont know them off the top of my head.

Easiest way to diagnose a problem is go to http://www.zcontrol.net and download the SRtalk program and build the unit. It'll give you all the readings from the ECU. I built it and it works "GREAT"!b
