The fuel injector cleaner @ every oil change thing comes from (guess who?) companies that make fuel injector cleaner.

There is alot of folklore about high Octane gas. Modified Mag did a good article about it (the one with the stillen 350z I think) Really the only reason to go with higher octane is to reduce chances of detonation. Although I beleive the higher octane gas may have be cleaner and have better additives...not sure. Someone check me on that. Higher octane has a slower burn. Usually one's car feels perkier with hight octane b/c the computers knock sensor isnt kicking in bogging it down. Also, the higher octane helps the fuel ignite at the correct time of spark and piston position. Unlike where low octane you could get pre-ignition robbing you of power because the ignition didnt occur at the correct time of spark, valve opening, piston position, etc. I think this makes sense. Its kind of like your car being out of time/sync.

ok... i went and tested this theory on my crx... i had an empty tank so i went and put a couple bucks of 87in... since my crx doesn't have a knock sensor i can't blame it on that... i went and drove my car very hard... went on the freay... toped out at 120... so by the time i get back to town... my car is almost out of gas... good for me... so i put a couple bucks of 91 in... i go dothe same thing same route everything... the best part is when i got to the freway... before i tached out 4th gear and shifted into 5th and couldn't go anyfaster... this time i tached out 4th then shifted into 5th... and kept going and ended up taching out 5th at about 135... i don't know exactly because my speedo only goes to 125 and stops moving were it would be 130... but my revs kept climbing... so i can say this... higher octane helped my performance out... i hate when people argue about ****... just go and try it yourself and report back...

P.S. seeing how i have a pertty high compresion... i had ungodly pinging with 87 and it went away with 91...

It is not thruth that premium burns cleaner than regular. The difference is in knocking. If you drive in normal conditions and your valves knock then YES by all means use the premium, othervise 87 is just fine. Moreover, quality of gas does depend on a oil company, and additives they put there.

Chances are if you are knocking (you may or may not even realize it) you are losing power. Too bad that 87 Octane cant run properly on our everyday cars unless they are running perfectly.
