There is alot of folklore about high Octane gas. Modified Mag did a good article about it (the one with the stillen 350z I think) Really the only reason to go with higher octane is to reduce chances of detonation. Although I beleive the higher octane gas may have be cleaner and have better additives...not sure. Someone check me on that. Higher octane has a slower burn. Usually one's car feels perkier with hight octane b/c the computers knock sensor isnt kicking in bogging it down. Also, the higher octane helps the fuel ignite at the correct time of spark and piston position. Unlike where low octane you could get pre-ignition robbing you of power because the ignition didnt occur at the correct time of spark, valve opening, piston position, etc. I think this makes sense. Its kind of like your car being out of time/sync.
