I've been doing some research and looking at a lot of the newer Inifinitis lately and I have drawn up a sketch of LED taillights for the G50...

It uses the principle of the angel eyes with the notches refracting light (although you can't see it in the sketch) and uses LEDs to transmit the light through the rings...

I've decided to take over Wes's project and hopefully make them for anyone who wants them once I get the bugs worked out.

Though I love angel eyes on the front, this design you propose will, IMO clash with the look of the rear. I think the circular design will not have any visual relationship with anything on the rear of the car.

Some time ago, someone had posted pics of a JDM LED setup that simply had LEDs firing in the stock reflectors. I'd go with something more along those lines.

Just my 2c - if it looks good to you - do it! Most important that YOU are happy with how you mod your car.

Yea I was noticing that also. I know I am definitely using the angel eye idea with the light refractions, but was not sure weather to do horizontal bars or circles.

I'll draw up a different one tonight.

And of course there is a previous thread where someone got to the mock-up stage, but never installed them as far as I can remember.

The trick is to make the computers see the correct current draw.

my searches can't find anything about this...

but anyway, there has to be a way to do it and fool the computer or you wouldn't see so many led tail lights out there.

It's all about the correct combination of resistors and bulbs to provide accurate current draw... right? Not easy, but no impossible either.

I like the second sketch better. Its prolly easier too.

Break out the multimeter and get some measurements on the stock lights so you know what your aiming for with the LEDs.

Do you mean LED tail lights on G50s? I haven't seen any in my area... but we are a little behind here in the land of cotton

The dash display is looking for ground (I think, either that or 12V) on a certain pin. I'm 99% sure it's ground. So to completely fool the sensor, just ground the output wire from the sensor. Otherwise, it would be necessary to run the appropriate value of resistors off of the circuit to emulate the load from the OEM bulbs. Assuming the sensor is sensitive enough to detect if the LED circuit, with it's very low load, if it went bad - you could retain the sensor function. Probably just something that someone (maybe me someday) will have to experiment with...

The acrylic rod idea looks very interesting! Maybe just a few high-power emitters at either end of the rods instead of multiple LEDs. From what I can tell the big issue with a home-designed LED board is heat management. LEDs are almost bulletproof if you properly manage the heat that they produce. The fact that I see so may professionally designed circuits loosing LEDs that are supposed to last the life of the car scares me a little.

Check out these Luxeon Emitters

Don't be afraid grasshopper. I wouldn't mind doing some if someone were to work out the proper resistance etc. I am a wizz with a soldering iron, dremel, and various other gadgets, but am too wound up to do any figuring. Plus I don't have to pull out the Fred Sanford tri-focals yet.

This would be good therapy for me since I have yet to replace/fix my GIXXER 1000!

I don't think that will be necessary. Once I finish the project Wes had, I will be able to make them for anyone.

I don't have Wes's lights yet, but I think I have found the solution and can design them so that it will be very easy to install and replace bulbs IF they go out. Circuit simulator program

I don't see why they wouldn't be the same. Send them to me after I get the pricing done and can copy the design easily.

Are there aftermarket lights, like clear bubble lights (Like the recent Altimas) available for Q's?

I've been looking. The angel-eyes lights are sexy and would look great on a black Q like mine.

BTW, I'm actually quite petrified about the whole chain guide issue. I'm afraid to look under my hood now. Because if in fact I do need to change the guides, I'm slightly broke after paying for this Spring Semester. So I don't think I can afford a big job like that.

I'm trying to at least get my car cosmetically modded (i.e headlights, taillights, bodykits, and the like.)

Question. Are there Exhaust tips available to change the sound of the exhaust? Not a whole exhaust system but just a bolt-on exhaust tip. My Q is so silent. I just want to add a little spice to the sound.

To my knowledge there is no aftermarket tail lights in the USA, however with a little work I'm sure you could create a new lens to go on your existing lights...

As for the exhaust, remove the rear muffler and run pipes to a new high flow muffler OR just straight back. Exhaust tips will not help at all and are a joke, that is the only way to bring out the sound of the engine.

Thank you very much. I regret that I'm not as electronically dexterous as you guys and making my own lights might be hazardous to my health and my Q. LOL
