Hey guys, I've been lurking on the forums for a while now while looking for a 240 to purchase, and now that I've just purchased one I got a question for ya.

The power locks on my car is funky, if you lock the car and then close it, the lock would automatically open on the drivers side the moment it latches close.

EG: I park the car, open the door, lock both doors (which at this point both doors positively locks), get out and then close the door, the moment the drivers side door closes, the driver side door lock pops open.

The door lock stays locked when its already closed. It just doesn't stay locked when the door is open and you close it.

Yup that works, but thats just a temporary work around. I'd like to know whats actually causing this problem so I can fix it.

Its not a problem. Its the way its designed, and its not part of the power locks. My coupe is a base, and it does it as well.

Older Nissan's, as well as Subaru's and some other makes of cars use this trick. In theory its meant to help prevent people from locking their keys in the car. Honda has a similar system, where the drivers door wont lock with the door open, unless you hold the handle.

If you want to disable it, you will need to pull the door apart, and remove a part of the latch assembly. There is a small tumbler that flips when the latch closes. If the lock is down, this tumbler pushes it back up. If you remove the tumbler, no more unlocking.

Ah cool, thanks for the info. Is this "feature" only on the drivers side door, or is it on the passenger door as well?

I guess it's only for the S13 because my zenki remains locked after I close the door.

OP: I am so jealous, I love photography and fighter jets...

Huh, I never noticed on my S14 because it had keyless entry.

@zenkistic:

Hehe, I'm quite lucky being where I am and being fortunate enough to have airshows within 2 hours driving distance. I take it you clicked my sig and checked out my site?

@everyone else:

Thanks for the info guys, I might go and "fix" this annoyance when I pull the door panels off to get rid of that nasty tweed.
