I wouldn't do it. Usually when I coat I do it at 385*F and for 22mins after flow out. So the part is usually in the oven for about 25-30mins.

pls dont take offense... as i dont know much about powdercoating... and many others dont...

It has a high "orange peel" look.. is that typical? desired?

Im not positive long beach, but my wheels I had on my Z28 were powdercoated. As I recall, it was smoother than most paint jobs i had seen.. Typically powdercoating is super smooth...typically more like thisor at least thats the impression I get. Also sounds like the look that grystorm is going for *shrug*

I do like the color of the engine cover though!

im new to the powder coating thing but i think it depends on the material..example that texture would look different on a plastic engine cover vs a set of wheels. i personally like it a lot. that angle in that pic gave that orange peel look. lol heres more:

Ahhh i forget.. its plastic! Thats gotta be why... or atleast i think it is... and showing us a farther away pic just hides the peel (dont worry!).

Grab yourself a nice nismo oil cap on ebay to finish the look!

...i thought taking a pic from farther away would magically make the peel go away.lol Oh well, i still like it a lot. i love the color. it will come together when i have my intake, dampers, caps, etc. done

i believe that its the texture of the cover itself causing the orange peel look

unless you sand it down perfectly before painting, you will have the textured look

but i dont see the point of powder coating that when you can DIY for about 20-30 bucks of paint?

Last week i painted my cover and yesterday i installed my Fujita intake :D my engine bay looks alot nicer now :D

because instead of goin to pep boys and picking between 7 colors of spray paint, i can pick between more than 7,000 colors at this shop. yes, 7,000. The color i got is copper rose over burgandy flare. cant find that in a can...

Depends if you have your own powdercoating eqipment you can do 4 Valve Covers for $6 Doubt you can do that with spray paint.

Also being that its plastic has nothing to do with why it caused the Orange Peel effect. Theirs several reasons that causes Orange Peel. A. The coater applied too much powder. B. the substrated is extremly textured. C. Powder Coating in gloss colors will always have some form of Orange Peel usually its not noticeable until you get farther away.

Heres some covers a member on eastwood forum did.
