Hey guys - for those of you who don't know, we here at JGT Customs are now offering ceramic and powder coating services to NICO! We already have a thread up in our advertisers section, but with as often as that gets over looked we really wanted a place where we could show off some of our work. We're only going to be uploading pictures of projects that have been done starting as of 2013, or Nissan specifics and just going from there. All of our older pictures are in our advertiser's section - but we want to keep that clean and easy for our monthly specials! Anyways, here's some snapshots!

EDS13 Wheels:

How we received them to where they were finished - we only provided the powder - he gets ALL of the credit for the polished lips!

Work for a GT35R built 350z recently. Custom mixed satin cherry, flat gold, and black chrome. And yes - that is powder on the plastic valve covers :)

The colors are as follows: Intake manifolds are done in a metallic navy blue base with a heavy gold metallic clear coat. The clear actually causes the part to change from navy blue to gold depending on the light and camera angles. If you look at the LIM and the UIM - they are the same color though they appear different. The valve covers are a metallic gold/bronze base selected to match closely with Chris's wheels. The top clear coat is a custom blended heavy blue sparkle with a very light blue tint. Again - looking closely and between the pictures, you can actually see a mild color shift.

And right now we have quite a few things in or coming in. We'll post pictures of what we can and what certain customers will allow us! Hope you enjoyed!

What is your maximum size of part you can coat?

We're working on building a new oven right now, but currently our set up allows powder coatings parts of up to about 33" x 20x 13 or so. We're pretty creative with how we hang and such though, so we can work with you. For ceramics, we can coat any part, of any size.

So what type of curing system do you use for ceramic? I understand the heat treatment is considerably hotter than powder coating. I melted some plastic on my AMS mani recently and might re coat it.

We use an air-cure ceramic through NIC Industries. It has a partial cure time of about 24 hours, instead of being partially cured from being pulled out of an oven. The final cure on all ceramics is the same - it's done on the car. Our break in process is listed in full detail on our webpage - www.jgt-customs.com - under the ceramics section, but it basically consists of running your car at idle for about an hour, or through normal driving at about an hour.

We are also talking with a company regarding a larger oven right now. If the deal goes through, it'll take a month to two months, but we'd be able to accommodate about any part you are willing to send us.

Glad to see some southwest virginia reppin'! I used to live in Roanoke, so it's always good to see quality shops operating out of the area.

I was looking over your site and didn't see what your prep cycle was like. What steps of preperation do you guys perform? Prep is the biggest key to a quality finished product.

It is absolutely the biggest part. It depends on the part, but a basic prep list is as follows:

Degrease
Oil Burn off/outgas
Sand blast (or chemical etch/hand sand if valve covers. Too many motors get ruined from media blasting)
Pressure wash
Re - handwash to remove any remaining oils
Torch for fuzzies and dust
and then coat/cure

This is just basic - certain parts will be phosphated, masked, plugged, etc to ensure powder only goes where it's supposed to :) There are so many different ways to prep based on the part that I didn't think to even list what steps we take there. If it means anything - the valve covers on my personal car are still unharmed after 3 years and a motor pull - and one of the first valve covers we ever did still has no chips in it and it is about 2.5 years old :) Quality prep and customer service are the two main ingredients in great parts and happy customers and unfortunately, too many companies don't care anymore.

POWDER COATED

lol

Would love to know the whole process to the plastic job, because I thought you needed heat to bake it on? I didn't think it was possible...

Plastic sucks because you DO need heat to cure it. You cannot media blast (well...you can, but I wont on valve covers) and you can't chemically etch without risking the part. They were degreased, outgassed until they stopped smoking heavy (about 10 hours in the oven at a lower temp), hand sanded, washed down, coated, and cured at the max temperature I was willing to take them to without risking the deformation or melting of the plastic. It's rough because if you don't monitor it properly, you'll melt them and be owing your customer parts. Its not a risk most will take - but I enjoy things that challenge me :)

***MONTHLY SPECIAL UPDATE***
NICO ONLY SPECIAL: We want to update our gallery with MORE NISSAN PARTS. The first 5 orders we receive, no matter what the color in powder, will receive 15% off that order providing they are parts from your Nissan. Or a friend's. Or your mom's. We don't care - we just want more Nissan parts in our showcase :) This applies for ceramics and powders with our standard order requirements.

St. Patty's day is in March. I also need a new march special. So - I'm thinking any shade of green or gold sounds like a great way to earn 10% off. Aqua, Teal, Wrinkles, Candies, Two coats - you name it, if it can be justified as green or gold you've just earned 10% off your order :)

*All specials require the total cost of the order to cover a minimum of one pound of powder if the powder is not already in stock. Please message us for more information!

Boy, my 540 could use a good does of powder coating. I didn't think you could do plastic. What are the constraints as far as plastic items?

I have to know the type of plastic it is. Thin plastics cannot be done - like interior parts. But thermoplastics - such as valve covers, intake manifolds, etc - can be. What i need are any and all numbers found on your plastic part that you are looking to have done and I'll research to see what the distortion points are.

Ah...forgot to mention. We are also able to offer paint services for plastics that can't be powdered and we offer vinyl services for those interested as well. There are now tons of options for vinyl work available and we have access to an installer who works directly for us and has over 5 years experience in vinyl installation.

Well - we just got our newest ceramic in and should have pictures of that on the first parts within a week. Tungsten grey :) We're thinking of running a group buy after we get picture up for anyone interested.

Also, wanted to take time to update with more pictures - 4g63 Magnus V3 manifold. Anodized purple and gloss black.

Thank ya. Its actually a 3 stage process. Purple (Looks silver), then a clear to activate the purple, and then the gloss black. The black has no clear on top of it :)

Thinking about ceramic coating my down pipe and dump pipe, what is your turn around time?

AZ - If you've waited this long to get all your parts, another short period of time to have an awesome looking engine bay for your summer cruises won't hurt ;)

SX - We quote 2-4 weeks - but ceramics are usually 1-2. They're faster to lay, usually, than powder is :) We also offer a rush service which pushes you from the First in First out line to our rush line - they're priority over anything else we are currently working on.
