I recently purchased an OEM oil filter for my S13. When I got home, I opened the package and was about to put the oil filter on the car. It was night, so I had my handy "head-light"; otherwise I would have probably not noticed this. Against the inner wall of the oil filter(inside) towards the threaded hole there was a beige/white glob of something! It looked like some chewing gum (about two pieces of trident gum for size reference). After taking a screwdriver to it, it appeared to be some kind of caulk. So is this supposed to be in here?! I have never seen this before in a Nissan oil filter, let alone any other oil filter. And no it wasnt part of the drainback rubber. What do you think?!

idk what that could have been but i would take it back to the dealer ship and get a new one as a "defect"

I think you should have at least taken a picture, .

I'm guessing you installed it anyway, so no point returning it to where you bought it.

No, I did not install it! I do not have my digital camera with me, but I will take a pic when I get a chance.

Interesting, I use Nissan filters as well, I am planning on changing the oil on my 240 tomorrow before I transfer it to its new storage location. I will have to take a peek inside the filter to see what I see.

Maybe your old oil filter wasn't able to filter all of the oil emerging from the pump or maybe the quality of the oil you use.

This was a brand new oil filter! It had never been installed on a car.
