I recently purchased an OEM oil filter for my S13. When I got home, I opened the package and was about to put the oil filter on the car. It was night, so I had my handy "head-light"; otherwise I would have probably not noticed this. Against the inner wall of the oil filter(inside) towards the threaded hole there was a beige/white glob of something! It looked like some chewing gum (about two pieces of trident gum for size reference). After taking a screwdriver to it, it appeared to be some kind of caulk. So is this supposed to be in here?! I have never seen this before in a Nissan oil filter, let alone any other oil filter. And no it wasnt part of the drainback rubber. What do you think?!
