Thanks Al for the reply. Autocrossing right now, yah. But I'm planning to move over to road racing and eventually go for a professional racing license. I want to stick with one car instead of switching around and I'm a little bored with fwd. I don't know, most likely I'll drop in a VQ36DE down the road if I'm going N/A, it's just I don't like 6 liter engines (not much room when working with the engine). Yes I do like high revving engines but I can sacrifice that if I find a perfect engine plan for a 240sx if I do decide to get one. Lastly, all of the turbo-charged engine swaps are great, but I do not want to go through the hassle with smog nor do I want to deplete the ozone layer in California more than I should. Yah guilty conscience here. Thanks for the replies. If you guys have any more ideas, just throw them my way. By the way, since we're on the subject of Gran Turismo (and sequels), I have never been beaten in that game before. = )

Take it easy,Andrew

I don't think you'll be dissappointed by the 240 at all. Stock form or not. If you do get the 240 just take the time to look into all options of tuning. BTW, I think the N/A KA route (i mean tuning the crap out of it) will end up being more of a polluter than a turbocharged SR. I could be wrong about that though....Just take the time to decide on what YOU personally want from the car.

Hey man no hard feelings. I really do understand how fun it can be to push ANY car to it's limit and really lay it down on a track. I've done it a handful of times with a couple different cars and it has always been an amazing experience, even though some of the cars werent exactly racecars.

I was mostly commenting on the usefulness and cost efficiency of a NA 4 cyl build for race purposes. I can understand racing within certain classes and all that-- but really why would someone want to build a 4 cyl? To make power? Not exactly the best way to go as mentioned eariler. If you are saying that it is better to stick to NA so that drivers dont become dependent on powering through the straights, then why BUILD the NA at all? If you want lower power, why would you dump thousands into a 4 banger just to squeeze a couple extra horses outta it? It just doesnt make sense to me.

Anyways good discussion....

alsorry i didnt know he was talking about stock to stock i thought it was what the cars can do because the thread was about the potential. yeah with money anything can be beautiful

kdashyyeah i've driven lots of cool cars =) not actually driven "rhd" civic type rs or 180sxs but i have driven a 450hp fully raced built 240 and some pretty decently modded civics.

im too poor for any steering wheels i just use the analog on the dual shock controller.

fiznatpushing a car to the limit is definitely fun whether it be slow gocarts or 240 haha. i understand how you feel about throwing a lot of money nto a 4 banger and not getting jack hp back for it though. but some people like being the underdog and still being able to kind of kick ***. throwing a couple of K on a civic would probably only get you about 30-50hp average yeah that strue it sucks but i have some friends that own both n/a and turbo cars. some people just like the sound of n/a the feeling of a motor revving 9 10 11k. eventhough its not really the fastest car in the world or anything its a lot of fun to drive. its like how some people drive miatas to autox. its not th ebest car in the world but you just feel happy when your lap times own supras and Zs. ek9s are very competitive though its an underdog but can beat many cars. a civic is like in the class of a corolla, focus, miata etc. the lower hp cars but when modified it can compete with 300-400hp cars way ahead of its class. so its kind of for fun to build one if i had money did you know the spoon civic revs to 16krpm? i think thats friggin scary thats almost f1 status revving. if it was all about the best power/handling/performance/for the money then you know our choices wouldnt be as high.

Not saying your wrong, but another thought is why factory turbocharged cars have numerous restrictions placed upon them due to emissions laws vs another car of the same hp from the factory but are n/a. I think it's safer to say that if either n/a or turbo-charged cars are improperly tuned they can fail tailpipe emissions.

im building my ka24e to be naturally aspirated, because i compete in scca, and am restricted to certain mods, i get my *** kicked by na EF civics, and na miatas alike, but at the same time i beat some sti's and evo 8's. its all driver up until some point.
