So i was driving today and going about 55. I applied the brakes to make a right turn up ahead. Once i was around 35 or 30 I heard a loud pop and clank. Immediatly i pull over and from what i could see it did not look like i had anything dragging on the ground. There was a pre-existing slight pull to the right when driving without the brakes engaged, but nothing bad or noticable to a passenger. Now when I apply my brakes, the car pulls to the right badly. Under normal braking, i have to have my steering wheel turned a quarter to the left in order to go straight. The car is a 89 hatch if that helps at all.Does anyone have an idea of what caused this? Thanks guys, I appreciate it.

dude... that doesn't sound safe at all.

take your wheels off and check the calipers as soon as possible. Possible problems include: seized pistons, loose caliper bolts, and... uh, that's really all I can think of in regards to what that popping sound could be. Its really hard to guess unless you check for yourself. You should also properly bleed the brake system as well. Air in one caliper and not the other can cause the "pull" when braking.

You don't sound very mechanically inclined, I would suggest towing the car to a quality mechanic.

It sounds to me like you may need new tension rod bushings.

If you are feeling cragty, you could grab a lug wrench, and stick in on a lug nut on your right front wheel. Rock the wrench forward and back, if the wheel shifts back and forth, you have problems, bring it to a good mechanic.
