Have you ever considered putting the Q45 V8 in the J30?

I've seen pics of the 4.5l V8 come as an option in the Japanese J30s, and may have possibly been a better fit.

i bypassed the heater core hose, i hooked up most of the vacuum lines......, everything seemed fine, i worked out the issue with the oil filter (got an oil filter relocation kit, but even that doesnt fit.... who would have guessed, so i got a smaller filter....).... then i started the engine...it ran smoother than before, that feeling was good at the time, untill oil started to flow past the car and i can see it in the rear view mirror.... so i stoped, and again back to the diagnoses mode.....i filled up z couple of litres of oil back into the engine.... and i got under it while starting, something very strange, first it makes a strange sound, then it gushes a big amount of oil for about 3 seconds after start up and then it stops the leak once the engine is accelerated (RPM), what on earth is that...... i'm in ottawa now, but i have decided that i have reached my limits with trying to fix this chain of unfortunate events, so i'm going to leave it in ottawa and go to my home town, call a towing on monday to take it to a good known mechanic in ottawa, i have already spent a lot on it, i mean it, the project has run me more than 3 grand up to today (not including the price of the near future repair, which i'm estimating at about 1000-1500 dollars including the IC piping)..... no luck on earth can make this work out, but maybe a good mechanic will......i can only hope.....

Man I seriously hope that oil leak is not the rear main or seal. That would suck...

i was considering that, but wouldnt the engine leak even if it is not running.......... that is not the case here, it would only leak (like crazy) for the first 4 seconds or so (accompanied with a strange sound, i'm only guessing that the sound is because there hasent been oil in the pipes for a long time) when the engine is started (well no leak for the first second and then 4 seconds continous leak, more than a litre), and once the engine revs, the leak would stop...... i dont know what could that be, i have a piping diagram of most of the systems in the TT engine (thanks to elwesso), and i can not figure out where the leak is coming from, to be exact, the leak is on the passanger side near the center, and when i turn off the engine and check, the oil filter is dripping (although it is not from the oil filter, i changed it twice), and when i'm under the car checking while starting the engine, the leak looks like a stream coming down from where the engine connects to the transmission (i cannot confirm exactly, but that is what it looks like), it is just a very strange thing, i have no idea...... i hope that an experianced mechanic would have a better diagnoses for it.....

sounds like it may be the rear main, thats the only place it can come from on the back. otherwise i might guess the turbo oil lines might be iffy.

if the rear main seal is the rear end of the oil pan (the round rear side of the oil pan that connects to the engine), then i have sealed that myself, and applied liquid sealant on the edges before installing the oil pan......if the rear seal is the round rubber seal that is in the end of crank shaft (exactly before the flywheel), then i have looked at that when i was changing the flywheel to make the J transmission fit, and it seemed more than fine, it actually looked almost new......

i might have done a mistake at installing either one, but always checked a tight seal before moving on to the next step, that was exactly what i was trying to avoid all along, but it seems like it just wants to happen.......

what do i do to inspect the rear main seal........ and wouldnt the engine be leaking oil even when it is not running ?

It could either be the rear main seal or the rear oil pan seal which is two different thing, and remember, once the engine start turning, oil pressure build up, and that could explain why it doesn't leak when the engine is not running. Good luck with your swap.BTW, after i sold my J, this is my new ride.

the leak is coming from the oil bracket, the seal must be replaced, and the oil filter bracket oil pump, and the bearings have to be inspected, time for a gasket set..... i'll continue in another topic as this is getting harder to read.......

exams man, exams...... the car is still in ottawa, the garage has not gotten a chance to start on fixing the leak after 10 days of the car just sitting there (or maybe no one wants to touch it, you know what, that is the second time i take it to a garage, two different garages, i dont know if they are all busy all of the sudden, or they are just too scared to mess with it.....)i'll give them untill the end of next week (exams will be over by then), if they havent done anything, then i'll just tow the car to montreal so atleast i'll have it home and i can work on it

Just FYI, in the pictures of the motor, the PTU (which is located on the right front timing belt cover) is the old style which was recalled by Nissan. I'd slap a new style one on there, if you haven't already, as the old one is bound to give you problems.

thanks nsrZ32, the old PTU is just there so i wont loose it, i have already hooked up the new ignitor chip, but the wiring for the J is slightly different than the Z, the PTU hooks up to it's plugs on the passanger side near the firewall, thank you again......
