As far as the 6speed goes i dont care 5 or 6 as long as its manual. All the 6th gear does is save gas on the highway really unless you get extensive race work done to your trans to stretch your gears for more top speed gearing for the 6th gear. But i will look into the VQ30det swap for a 240 for drifting. How hard is it to swap or do you know?
THAT is precisely what I want a 6spd for! lol
As far as power limits of the VQ, how much is enough? In a 240, even 350hp is SCARY FAST. The VQ35DE's internals are pretty reliable up to 400hp. But since the VQ30DET is the only VQ motor that Nissan decided to turbo from the factory, it's quite a bit stronger than the VQ35. Here's a VQ30DET swapped into a GTS Skyline which is heavier than a 240.

On street tires it ran an 11.2 at the track, and makes 500hp with bolt-ons. We're talking just a better turbo, injectors and a tune here. In a 240, that might be a 10 second car.

But those are Austrailian cars, which are RHD. Installation would be a little more challenging for us LHD users, beacuse the turbo manifold wants to occupy the same space as our steering linkage. But thats ok! Where there's a will, there's a way! USDM S14 VQ30DET swap in progress:

Yeah, it's not complete yet. But that guy has a great rep as a car builder. I have no doubt that he will finish it with few problems and it will be awesome. But if you don't like how he mounted his turbo, you could always decide to add another and run twins on both sides like Nissan did when they ran this motor in their JGTC GT-R racecars!
