As you can tell from my heading... I am pretty desperate for help. I have gone to the dealers and multiple mechanics and no one seems to know how to help me. I have an issue with noises coming from my steering wheel. They are metal-like and sounds like a grinding sound. It sounds like metal objects rubbing against each other. It used to happen once in a while, but recently it has been a more constant thing. Sometimes while these noises are happening, the wheel would twitch. My car is a 2007 Nissan Sentra. Please I would like some help and I don't know where to go to anymore! :ohno: :wtf2:

is it in the steering wheel itself on is it actually coming from the wheels themselves? and is it worse when you take turns?

No, it's the steering wheel itself. I noticed that it does also make noise when turning as well. I have electric power steering if that helps.

it is pointed out in the forum. it's the first person to respond to the asker's question. your entire steering column will more than likely have to be replaced to resolve the issue. all sentras between 07 -12 have electric power steering, which personally i think didn't work out too well. it's a great idea but needs a lot of improvement. i don't know if it's been changed up on the new models however. how many miles do you have on yours? honestly i'd contact NISSAN about it and see if they could do anything for you. i'd bet my a** you wouldn't be the first to come up to them with the same problem. many people have had this problem with the power steering in that generation sentra. i hope all works out for you!

are you the original owner and is there any warranty left for the vehicle? if not, don't get startled by the fact that this could be a hefty bill to fix. could be upwards of $2800, at least that was the price back in 2008. but perhaps if they can replicate the problem, they will fix it. good luck and let us know what happens.

There is a warranty on the car. The dealership said they wont cover anything except my engine .. :/ I found some1 who would take a lookk at
My steering column for 45 dollars. I also found steering columns online for 45+ dollars. So I never really thought pf it as a expensive thing to do :( Idk.

prices more than likely have dropped a lot. granted the price i gave you was the dealership price. the part doesn't cost that much. but the labor and diagnostic rate to install it brings it up to that price. just look around on the internet. google will turn something up for you. and if you can find someone to install it for you for relatively cheap, then that would be great. if you install it yourself, you'll save even more! one thing... does the actual powersteering fail itself? as in you can't turn the steering wheel sitting still or going slow very well? sorry, i don't know why i didn't ask this question earlier..

Btw, you have been great. I would like to thank you again. People were being to doubt my sanity lol. No it hasn't failed yet. I can still steer but sometimes it does shake or twitch. This is more recent though. It was just the sounds before.

hey it's no problem. that's what we're here for. to try and help people out to the best of our ability. wouldn't be much of a place if we didn't lol. but in regards to the situation, have your guy to take a look and see if there is any grinding noises coming from the steering column. honestly, if going in a straight line in between 20 to 40, and 45 to 70mph, and the steering wheel is shaking a little bit, your tires could simply be out of balance which is astronomically cheaper lol. does this happen to sound like one of your symptoms at all? and have you recently rotated your tires? sorry for all the questions. just trying to fully understand the problem.

No problem! No, it doesn't shake. It's very weird. I was able
To catch the sounds on two voice notes and thank goodness I did. The sounds are rare now and it would have been terrible if I went and he couldn't hear it. My appointmwnt is in a couple hrs and I hope it's a success. :dblthumb:
