Please help me decide DOHC KA24 or FWD SR20. I bought an 89 S-13 with the two new motors at a great price. As you can see, I'm a Supra guy, and I know very little about these 240's. In the purchase, I also got 3 ECU's, and 1 wiring harness that I was told will work for either motor. That seems very odd to me! My plan was to use the more popular SR20, and sell off the KA, but all of my Supra buddies tell me I should re-consider. I'm building this car with my son as his first car. I want him to have a good daily driver for now, but have a good platform for future modification. Is the KA my best choice? Anything else you can add would be appreciated.

Welcome aboard.

You don't have a choice, as the FWD SR won't work in your car.

Also, the wiring harness is different between the two...

When you say "new motors", are you certain? Neither motor has been manufactured for over a decade.

The KA is indeed a good choice.

Why buy a motor when I have 2? Couldn't the FWD SR be converted to RWD? What would be needed for that to just run it N/A to start?

The external castings of the RWD/FWD SR20's are different, the head from one can not be swapped on to the other.

There was a Rex down there with a 240 who had 2 different states he bounced around from. Different guy I guess.

Anyway, I guess you have solidified my answer on these two motors. Does the FWD SR20 have any value?

I'm sure I will be around for a while seeking advise here. I guess I should have asked about a 3rd option at the same time. 7MGTE? I got one of those laying around too.

There's been a few guys that swapped 2jz's into 240's (S13 & S14), but that's a TON of fab work.
