The standard cars are noticeably different. But they are upgradeable, and the upgrades do make a huge difference. Brake upgrades would have been welcome. But with the sport soft tires and no traction control/ABS, the car locked up and would slide through corners if you weren't careful. I don't see the brakes being an issue until the cars can be made a lot more powerful, and only with racing tires on.
The car I was goofing off in was 309 HP with the height adjustable suspension and lightweight drivetrain parts.
I will have to see how the premium cars handle, but I was only on level 5 (you level up as you race) and faster, premium cars were only available for higher levels.
I do have to say, the Go-Kart racing was really fun. The wheel made it feel like you were driving a little shifter cart. Wading through the tedium seems like it might take a while, but it all feels well worth it. I haven't seen any of the realistic damage so I can't comment on that. All in all, I would say that this is the best Gran Turismo made to date, and I thought that prologue was really underwhelming. I also enjoyed 3 more than 4. This may take some getting used to, but my first impression is very positive.
First impression rating would be a 9/10.
