I watched the whole 28 minute video in astonishment. The end result looks good, but would anyone here really plastidip their whole car?

That's totally what I was thinking. Vinyl seems far more sensible. A little more expensive, but I think worth it if you're going to "wrap" your car in some way.

I think a small rock at highway speeds could chip enough off that it would peel an entire hood once some air gets underneath it.

I said it before, Plastidip is becoming the new unpainted body kit. I could print a picture of Brad Pitt and tape it to my face trying to get laid and it would essentially be the same thing. Might look like the real deal from far away, but up close its going to get laughed at and rejected.

I have a feeling the whole plasti-dip phase is going to explode. Substantially cheaper than having your car wrapped and you can do it yourself with no risk of messing things up. Not saying I like it, but I imagine this is just the beginning lol To each their own

I like the idea of a matte finish, just not with plastidip lol. I think I spend the extra couple hundred and vinyl wrap what I want to wrap. Just wondering what others thought.

I think a lot of people are under the impression that a vinyl wrap is almost the same thing as Plastidip because neither are permanent and dont actually "invade" the paint of the car. And Im sure these same people havent seen a quality vinyl wrap job in person. Properly done, a vinyl wrap will last YEARS. They can look BETTER than a paint job. It cant be pulled off whenever you want like Plastidip can. It needs to be properly removed with heat and at the right angle or it will remove clear coat. Its legit, not something that was originally made to coat the handles of tools.

Just watched pieces of the video...poor S4. Anyone else notice that when he was umasking the windows the Plastidip was NOT following the line he wanted and then the clip abruptly ended? LOL! Areas behind the door handles were left untouched because he didnt remove them, a part of the lower bumper was not even. And that is how he is marketing his product?!?! Why does he have to redo it before a show? Because it doesnt last. I bet washing the car with too much force will take it off. "Just roll it with your thumb." I can understand someone using it for plastic pieces, trim, or even plastic fenders on a pickup or something...BUT AN ENTIRE S4!?!?! NO!

If I ever saw this car in person I would peel "DJ B Easy does NOT approve" into the hood. I dont know guys, do what you want but this stuff is never going anywhere near my AC.

@DJBeasy

I don't know why you hate this product so much and so negative towards it. I have plastidip on the front of my car and my wheels for months now and it hasn't peeled off or show any signs of wear and tear. I've taken it through the mountains at high speeds and off-roading. Still on there. There's people who can't afford a vinyl wrap and thus go for this. Btw, I think Fonzi or someone on youtube took a high pressure water hose to plastidip and it never came off. Dipping his S4 was assuring his product, I don't think anyone would buy the product if he only tested it on a rinkydink broken multi-colored car. Also, I never knew that vinyl wrapping can remove the clear coat...hm...

It's gonna cost time and money no matter what is or isn't on your car: plastidip, vinyl, paint, whatever. If someone keys your car, sh*ts gonna need fixing.
DJBeasy wrote: I think a small rock at highway speeds could chip enough off that it would peel an entire hood once some air gets underneath it.
I'm not a big fan of spraying the stuff on body work, but wind will never cause it to peel itself off unless maybe you're going for a land speed record.

I've sprayed it on a few bike parts just to check it out, and it is pretty durable, has like a rubbery orange-peel textured look/feel to it. It's almost like a really tough shrink wrap, so if there is a tear in it, the surrounding areas will sort of stick to the whatever it's sprayed onto.

Would I use it on my car? No, except for maybe using it to make a cheap front bra for a cross country trip. For long term, I'd definitely use paint.

hahaha. I watched that video and was 100% impressed. I tested it out by putting a layer of black on my mac book air. It came out really good and i'm impressed. I think i am going to put a layer on my rims. the best part is after i get sick of the color i can pull it off! this stuff is great.

lol, I think I preferred that car with the white better, more contrast... I'm thinking about using plasti-dip for emblems and small things but would never douse my car with it.

Off-roading an AltyCoupe? Fail.

And Plasti-Dip isn't that knucklehead's product - it's been around since the 70's.

Surprisingly the coupe does pretty well off-road. Nothing "fail" about it other than the fact that it got dirty. Btw, that off-road journey led me to one of the best places I've ever driven on and seen in Cali.

He's selling it on his site, so hence I mentioned "his product." Its marketing, he wants you to buy from him.

I think you may be losing some things in context here. Most people consider "off roading" driving a vehicle on trails, hard, with winches to pull themselves out of tough spots and for the occasional rollover. They destroy driveshafts in doing so, rip fenders off and dont think twice nor care about it. Driving your AC on a dirt or unpaved road would not qualify as "off roading" to most people.

i dont know about that, i went to a track meet here in san marcos (San Diego) and i had to park in their dirt lot, i counted it :rotfl almost like a rally car :chuckle:

^I wouldnt even really consider rally cars as off roading. Although I did grow up riding lifted Broncos through the woods to go get smashed on the side of a mountain. If you have to remove air from a tire to make it over a rock, then you are off roading.

Oh no, I wouldn't be here today if I were to do that kinda thing with my coupe. I went down a one way road that's unpaved, bumpy, surrounded by mountains, bullet shells, pebbles, and mud. That's my version of taking my car "off-road" because I'm no longer on the "road." I took it into the literal definition. AND my Plastidip was still intact!!!!! :dblthumb:
