Hey guys, I just ordered some plasti dip. My main goal is to black out the wheels but I bought a couple extra cans so I figured I'd have some fun with it. Here is a photoshopped image of what I'm thinking of doing. The wheels are definitely getting done.

The headlight eyelids don't sound like the greatest idea, but with plasti-dip you can peel it right off, so I'm gonna try it, if it sucks, I'll peel it. Kinda makes it look like Maxima headlights...no?

Thoughts? Ideas?

Eyelids - No
I've seen eyelids on alot of e36 BMW's and I've never really been a fan.

Wheels-Yes

Grill-yes

Foglight - no
That would just make it look like/make it so you don't have foglights...

Roof-no
Can't really see it, would have to deal with rubber strips, and would use alot of plasti-dip

Extra- that bar in the bumper that the license plate covers up partially might look good blacked out

for the love of god DO NOT paint ANYTHING that lights up... eg your head lights, fog lights, turn signals........

Grill, Yes

Wheels, skeptical about it... but if you do it properly (wheels off and rubber covered properly with proper sanding, primering, and painting) go for it. otherwise dont... youre more likely to make it look like a child coloured it with chunky brush on paint.

Roof.... dude.. seriously... please dont... i understand it may seem cool and all but to be honest, your vehicles paint/colour is some what of a "rare" one just like the forest green (chris M), tri colour white (mine), and electric blue. dont ruin it.....

no offense but it seems more like youre obsessed with this plasti dip stuff and sooner or later youre going to end up painting your whole truck black

Ok, it's decided. Before it gets hostile in here, I will take the advice of the masses and only do the Wheels, Grill and Emblems on the back as well. The end. Let's not flame each other's artistic inclinations. I should have pictures up by the weekend if all goes well.

@Innovazn, truth is, I've always wanted an all black car. I just never seem to have the patience to wait for one when I go car shopping. I've always loved black wheels on a car, depending on the color, and in my opinion, Merlot Pearl will pair up nicely with black. Electric Blue is the shiznit though.

@Everyone, the difference between Plasti-dip and Other rattle cans are, you can literally PEEL plasti-dip off. So if this whole thing ends up in shambles, I can just peel everything off without stress. Think of it as more of a "protective" layer if you will.

Cheers.

--and about spraying your mirrors, it makes a lot of sense in my opinion. If you have an LE with paint matched mirrors, scratches can be a problem. The quick-on and -off nature of Plasti-dip is novel!

Pretty sure underglow in a suv counts as an idiot idea. You can make a rattle can paint job look as good as any other if you do it right.

The op has the right idea, if anything its a good thing to go with plasti dip to see if you like the look of it. Thats exactly what I did with my rockers, I plasti dipped them to see what it would look like black before I fully committed and sanded down the paint for a look I was not sure I would like. Id say go ahead and paint whatever you want, hell even do the roof! Its fun, thats the point....if you have extra stuff left over then USE IT! If it does not work out then just take it off with no ill effects.

agreed. the Jeep looks ugly. just an opinion, of course.

i want to paint my wheels, just don't have the time to do it. i am planning on rhino-lining my roof, just the center section between the racks from front windshield to rear window. i've also really considered rhino-lining my front and rear bumpers.

I got the Plasti-dipping done. Will try to get some pics up tomorrow. Everything came out well, except for the back emblems which I'll have to redo. It was dark and I couldn't see + my finger jammed on the spray nozzle and it was a big gooey mess. I'll peel that one off tomorrow haha.

I did my rear emblems with the stuff. Been holding up great for the last month no problem. But you cant do your llights with the stuff. It does on thick and no light would shine through. Plus you wouldnt get a perfect edge because it would just peel off.

I didn't do the lights, I figured it would indeed look ricey. I'm excited with the outcome. I did a LOT with 1.75 cans. I ordered 4 lol. What can I do with the rest? :)

I did about 4 coats each with a little less than 2 cans:
Grill
Front of roof, before the spoiler (about 3")
Wheels
Emblems

Going to:
See if I like the roof tomorrow, if not, I'll peel it off
Finish the emblems
Paint the stepbars/rockers.
Possibly the bottom grill (behind the license plate) EVO/GTR style

I'm considering tinting the fronts to match.

Can anyone clarify for me, why in God's name the sunroof is not tinted? Or is it just mine, it just seems like the DUMBEST thing to not tint. I can't ever pull back the shade for fear of getting toasted alive. Every car in my family has tinted sunroofs. WTH.

So, I did the back roof, didn't like it. Peeled it right off.

All in all, I can swear by Plasti-dip. Goes on easy, comes off easy. Any questions, do ask.

I will take better pics in better light soon. :)

I know I need to wax my tires too.

Thanks a lot! I really really like it more as each day passes. I'll consider your suggestion, like I have the emblems on the grill and trunk. I think it looks really different with just the Nissan lettering in chrome.

I did my tailpipe with High Heat engine paint. Plasti-dip would probably melt?
I heard you can get it at any hardware store but I searched all of them within a 10 mile radius and none of them had it in spray form. I had to order mine online. I got a package of 4 for about 40$ (eBay).

That was the easiest. I didn't wanna take the grill apart. So carefully tape around the edge of the grill, use ample newspaper to avoid overspray. I used .5" of tape perfectly cut across the NISSAN emblem and sprayed about 4 coats. You want to spray Plasti-dip on pretty thick because that makes it 1) more durable and 2) easier to peel off in case of mistake.

Best of luck. Any questions, do ask!

bump... has anyone ever tried plastic dip on the interior trim pieces ? i mean i rather go this route so that later i can just peal it off when needed rather then ruining my trim. Any input?

It can work, but the way plasti dip is, you can't get a "PERFECT" cut unless you're REALLY REALLY fast(removing the guard tape before it dries otherwise you might peel some from where you want it to stay). It'll look good but the key to working with it is spraying it on really thick, that way it peels off much easier.

Has anyone plasti-dipped their fender flares as well, if so can you post pics. I have a feeling this would look great with the black rims. Any thoughts?

What do you mean take the grill apart? you sprayed it in place? why not just remove it and hang it, to spray.
