Back then, I couldn't for the life of me figure out how to get the grill off. I taped it off and sprayed.

Anyone know where I can get a can of Plasti-dip big enough to drive a Nissan Pathfinder into? I thinking of coating the whole outside of the truck. Thanks!

Id imagine this stuff would rub right off with a good cleaning and anything more abrasive than a terry cloth

I dont think you should paint a daily driven vehicle with it

I wanted to paint my wheels with it but clean my tires with a tire brush alot and I think this stuff would rip right off

It's actually Still perfect. I haven't gotten a true detail since, so nothing crazy has been done. I've been to the car wash several times and nothing has peeled. It's a matter of multiple layers. However, yea, if you attacked it with a hard-bristle brush, I'm sure you'd damage it.

Each can is <8$ so it wouldn't hurt to re-coat.

Have you thought about wrapping it in plastic?

Warning: Its a long read, and you will go from very enthusiastic at the begining to not very towards the end.

It looks pretty sharp though

I'm actually a HUGE fan of matte black. A college student like myself cannot afford the $5,000+ matte paintjob, so vinyl is not a bad option. If I had a sexy sedan/coupe, I would consider it. At least for a season, not a keeper. It's a good paintjob protectant too.

I'm an all-black everything "murdered" kinda guy. Maybe it's my youth showing, but I am too young to NOT enjoy modding my cars. When I trade in my car, whatever it may be, for a minivan, then I will join the trolls. Until then, tasteful creativity is always better than what your favorite troll is driving.

Finally managed to track down a thread with pics of your ride SBK. Haha really impressed with the grill and wheels. What is this plasti dip stuff and does it require all of the prep necessary for regular pain? I've never heard of it.

Thanks PathDetector.

It is like a rubbery thing, it's meant to seal, waterproof and protect stuff (from scratches etc). It has a flat black/ matte look which I really like. It's really easy to clean too. Not much prep necessary, thoroughly wash and dry the area, tape off the area, then apply thick even coats (3 is a good number)-- waiting 10-15 minutes in between.

PM me for any help.

Awesome! I appreciate it. Is it still holding up pretty well so far, especially on the wheels? Any suggestions where to purchase from or should I google and get the cheapest I can find?

It's holding up great! No scuffing at all. I have slight scuffs on 2 of the rims because I got new tires installed after the paint. The scuffing is so miniscule I didn't find it necessary to respray. I got mine from ebay I think... ~$7 a bottle sounds about right.

@Pathfinder3.5 .... You just gave me a BAD BAD BAD idea... holy cow. I love matte black cars. I always wondered how sexy it would look all flat black. If I didn't have to "change" the color on the registration documents I might have rented out a garage and done it in one session.

PS: Guys, TRY IT OUT! It comes off so easy if you don't like it, all you lost is your 45 minutes!

For some reason, this doesn't look nearly as good as I would have thought it would.

Maybe with tinted tail-lights, headlights, and stock-colored wheels it would be ok, but the QX4 looks alot cheaper now. It's just too plain... :frown:

I can respect where your coming from chris. But I do think they were going for a rugged, stealthy, look. They were doing it for ModernWarfare 3 release in case you missed that.

I see,

The last video game I actively played was Need for Speed Hot Pursuit 2 in 2003

That says alot about me, and explains why I don't know anything about video games today :bigthumb:

So, as the subject says I am a new member... my knowledge of cars is very minimal... so pretty much I don't know anything hahaha!! Why get involved here?? Well, I want to know more about my car. My first ever car that I purchased on my own was a 1995 Pathfinder (SE - jungle green) and I freaking loved it!! In 2005 I traded it, begrudgingly, for a smaller car that shall remain nameless (looks like a BoX). Finally, in early 2013, I got myself my favorite car again... a 2012 Pathfinder (S - dark slate grey).
After having my car for a little over a year, I have begun to daydream about modifications that I could make (simple mods) and I came across some videos about Plasti-Dip for your rims. It seems, even with my limited knowledge, to be a project that I could undertake without messing anything up too bad :ohno: ... I love to paint and create things, so I know I am capable.
I guess I just wanted to introduce myself... let any who read this give me any advice if they have tried plasti-dip. If the rims come out nice, I am going to do the chrome on the front and the chrome emblems... and then (possibly) the roof racks. After I get it cleaned I will do some before pictures, and then of course some after pics of the rims... and with any luck, some after pics of the chrome parts if I can pull it off. Anyway, sorry about the lengthy intro... looking forward to blacking out the beast!!

I plan to plasti-dip my 01 QX4 later this year. Probably anthracite grey. https://www.dipyourcar.com/collections/ ... acite-grey
