from what he said before, it depends on the tuning on how the inspection results will turn out as to whether the car will pass emissions or not. Also, the turbo acts as a muffler, so you want to the least restrictions possible to allow the turbo to push out all that exhaust more quickly, so it can spool up faster and produce quicker peak boost
I was actually asking about the 2.5" non-Turbo exhaust, but thank you none the less. So how about it guys, sound clip?

I am not trying to take away from Artisan but I want to shine a little light on the reality of getting aftermarket turbo kits emissions legal. To put it simply, try to find a street legal turbo kit for the 350Z and G35 crowd...You won't. Not because Jim Wolfe, Greddy, and the likes don't know how to tune because they definitely do. They are some of the best Nissan/Infiniti tuners in the world.

Here are a few problems with getting aftermarket turbo kits through CARB inspection.

1) It is against federal law to re-locate catalytic converters2) If you mount the cats behind the turbo you will have difficulty getting the cats to get to operating temperature within 60 seconds...Government standard. Because the turbo acts as a heat sink and robs all the heat necessary to warm the cats. (this is really the most important thing.) We have talked with many companies that have tried to do turbo's for the Z's and G's and this is the biggest problem they have...If you fail this step (step 1) you don't even get to move forward.3) You need to re-circulate the exhaust gas back through the engine to clean it...If this kit comes with a blow-off valve it will not do that.

We have a lot of experience with CARB as every supercharger we make or have made has been street legal. Also we do a lot of work with our intakes and various products to get them certified by CARB.

If you get pulled over with an emissions illegal part on your car it can be a major hassle. I got pulled over one time with my Titan. I had our supercharger kit on it but I had forgotten to put on the CARB E.O. number decal. The cop wrote me up for an emissions violation and I had to pay the fine, and smog referee testing...Even though the kit was 100% legal. I just made the mistake of forgetting the sticker.

Again, congratulations on developing a turbo kit for the 3.5's. I am sure it is a very nice kit and I am sure a lot of people will want it. I just wanted to let everyone know what the reality of legality is like.
i hear where your comin from, but you guys have it real bad in cali with the cops an your vehicles, but pretty much any other state but cali, doesnt have that kinda enforcement.. youd only run into problems gettin your vehicle inspected in any other state

kyle@stillen wrote:On the intake, I don't think the Injen is CARB legal yet but I'm sure it will be. Once their kit gets certified we will work with Injen to distribute the decals. Realistically it's not a big deal. A cop won't think to look under the hood unless he hears something abnormal like a blower whine or blow-off valve.
is the Stillen intake carb legal or in the process?

dude anyone with a brain stem can do this for a fraction of the price, its simple remove the lens by baking, sand the chrome down, get high temp metal primer and then coat it with high temp paint of the color you desire and glue the lens back. this shouldnt even cost you $150 to do

This method was just tried by a successful headlight modifier, and he failed when they wouldn't open after baking. Some kinda special epoxy sealant or something. Oh, and baking a $1400 set of headlights, thats a heavy risk.

As much as DIY jobs are fun, I wouldn't want to take any risks with my car.

It possible on doing it on your own. I've done it on my past Acura CL and it IS time consuming. The plastics used will hold up to the 200 degree temp in the oven. The biggest pain is cleaning off ALL that epoxy residue from the lens and the housing. Then reapplying it so it doesn't "squish" all all out when you put lens and the housing together. If you don't do it right, then you'll have condensation, in which case, you'll need to start all over again.

Even still, yours retail for about $900 per set, or $450 per headlight shipped!

Does the artisan exhaust really stick out that much? I like how it looks on here and it sticks out just the right amount which is what i want. But, I think i've seen it somewhere else its basically sticks out the same as stock.

also is it just a bolt on or does it require welding?

the artisan exhaust is completely bolt on and the exhaust in those pictures was a prototype. the exhaust now on sale slightly differs and sits flush with the rear bumper, meaning it doesn't stick out the back at all. also, the tips are not stock. they're artisan tips and are better quality than the stock and they stay clean inside unlike the stock tips. hit up turbochargers.com gixxer if you're interested in the exhaust and they'll give you all the details. they're offering a sweet price on it right now so check out the videos and hopefully azure will post some more once he installs his 2.5inch artisan cat-back on his coupe.
