As a general rule, Rotas are very light. I don't know what these particular wheels weigh however.

Yeah I like my brand new Rota D2's also!!!!!! I probably should have got the the 225/45/17 tires for more meat on the rim but I went with the 205/40/17 and that gave me that super low profile look. When its time to buy new tires I am definately getting a little bit bigger tires! I have to lower my car more than the Tien S-techs give me. There is still a gap in the fender wells even with lowering springs and 17"in rims? sounds crazy but Tiens just dont go that low......

UPDATE! I went back and bought 2 bigger tires for the rears to get that beefier stance I was originally looking for and I am really happy with the look. They are 225/45/17 which is a little taller and wider than the fronts which are 205/40/17...here is a new pic taken at the lagoon near Vacaville.

This thread is really old, but your coupe looks damn clean with those. Are you running the 8.5 +25's?

I rock 17x8.5 +20 as drift spares, they're passable... need spacers to look good though...

The wheels look great, and compliment the look of the car. Excellent choice.

Why do some 17's look tiny while others look big?

probably has something to do with the aspect ratio of the tire mounted to it.

Is that a serious question?

Aspect ratio, ride height, car, camera angle, lighting, etc.

I think what makes wheels look big or small to me is the size of the spokes. On the Rota's the spokes aren't very long, so it makes them look smaller.I like them though!

mixflip: a lower sidewall will create the illusion a smaller drop. Even on the stock 7-spokes/s-techs, a 195 series tire looks nasty... 205 provides a little more tire 'meat' and looks(just IMHO) 100x better.

So in short you may be happier aesthetically with just a different tire.

Tires 101

Width/Aspect Ratio (Sidewall Height)/Wheel Size

You mean a 40 series tire as opposed to a 45 series tire.

If I were to buy these wheels, I would most certainly paint the fake screws black, as such:

Yeah I decided to keep the fronts at 205/40 and went and bought some bigger and wider rears at 225/45 which I like alot better! It looks more a aggressive and beefier. I dont know how this set up will perform but I am assuming that its a simple formula...bigger/wider contact patch out back is always a welcomed upgrade to any rear wheel drive car? plus it looks kinda "muscle car-ish"

btw someone made a comment that my tires looked stretched...what exactly does that mean? besides the obvious??? what am I looking for when someone says that? Stretched where???

They mean strecthing the sidewall, ie. putting skinnier tires on wider wheels. When looking along the plane of the wheel you can often see the lip, because the sidewall is curved in. It also prevents you from having to really pull your fenders out when you try to fit wider wheels on a car.

Aw yeah, that looks a ton better... to me anyways, aestetically speaking, stretched tires only look good when there's an extreme drop.
