I'll tell you why they do it...

It's trendy and ghey... Like a fauxhawk, or an MMA t-shirt.

It requires no real commitment.

Fauxhawk: "I'm too much of a puss to shave my head, plus someone might beat me up - Yay!"

MMA shirt: "I'm too much of a puss to learn martial arts, but this shirt is only $19.99 - Yay!"

Rust hood: "I'm too much of a puss to pick up a wrench and make my car cooler / faster, so I'll cop someone else's style and look hardcore - Yay!"

Like I said, it's poser. Complete poser.

calling the owner of nico an idiot usually doesn't end well.

if you did it, it would make you a poser for emulating the euro guys. if you want euro styling, get a euro.

Such utter fail. I had a rusty hood ont my 240 for a while, but I certainly wasnt proud of this misfortune. Yakima roof rack too... you will most likely get laughed at when you get to the drift event, then when your poor driving shows that there is reason for this terrible looking car, and that reason is... "If I'm gonna hit s*** with my car anyway why even try to make it look good, I'll just make it look terrible so that when I crash it wont look much worse". Although I doubt that you are still a member because of your ignorence.

We already drive cheap cars, how about we not find ANOTHER reason for people to look down on 240s as POS's.

Its been done to death on rat rods... Some euro cars look decent with it (like say an E30).

But I think its kinda dumb on cars like that 2000+ VW or an S14 that has no rust issues to begin with. Wait longer till the look of the car in general is more classic, and then the rust patina starts to work better.

WTF????? I never new about this trend, then again I am not a trendy guy. My own opinion, this is a retarded fad. But to each his own right. I don't know what they are smoking in Europe, but this crap needs to go. I feel sorry for any 240 that gets this treatment.

Everyone i know gets +1 posi rep for me never hearing of this ridiculous trend. I really don't care what anyone else does to ruin their s chassis, it only makes mine more cool looking in comparison.

But i could never watch my poor little car rust out on purpose. How long do you let it rust before you start another one because you're scared the rust won't hold the latch/pins down? May end up replacing a windshield. And someone else mentioned the rust running during the rain that seems undesirable. You can't be leaning up against your car without getting rust all over you. "I don't want my car to look like anybody else's, but i'm not willing to pay any moeny to do so"

And i hope yall mofo's got yalls tetanus shot.

rust is more brittle and heavier than bare steel why would you want to increase vehicle weight and make the hood brittle at the same time? it looks eye catching but i just dont see the value in it, sorry.

is there no rust colored paint? i assume not because who wants their car to look like a rust bucket. are you going for the color? the rust itself? structural integrity loss. im lost!

Honestly, if there was a 240 as clean as some of those V-Dubs with a rusty hood, it would be cooler than 95% of the 240s in the online community.

It's something that some people choose to do to their cars... if you don't like it, choose not to do it. I don't know why people always have to be so negative...

What doesn't make sense? The picture of a 240sx with a rusty hood or the fact its been posted in a thread about 240sx's with rusted hoods.

From what I read about this guys build thread, this was not at all intentional. He liked the way it looked when it was clean metal, but it was alot to maintain because it continued to rust, and he had it covered with vinyl. Did I read that correctly dean?

yes you did. I originally just wanted it polished metal. I would polish and seal it with either wd40 or silicone spray. it worked for a little bit but it became a hassle in the moisture when I would have to go outside and polish and coat it everynight before it got dark. so I just ended up vinyling it. the pic I posted would happen when it rained

Hey OP (blacktop sr20kid), do you live in AZ?

Cause I've seen the same sig that you have on AZ240sx.

And yeah, not a smart move calling Greg (AZHitman) an idiot.

Idiot?

Princess, when both your balls drop, you can speak to me. Until then , you're a wet-behind-the-ears fanboi.

I've built more sweet cars than you've had birthdays, so zip it.

And your Yakima roof rack idea is equally retarded, especially considering it won't work very well, and they're not designed to carry 200 lbs.

You can afford to go to drift events, but you don't want to spend money on real mods?

Don't come crying to me when the big kids smack you around at the drift event for being a fanboi trend follower.

You went to ONE event, and you're calling out people you don't even know?

Make sure you step up and say HI at the next event. I drove your grey car before you ever owned it. I'm local.

Putting a rusted hood on this car will ensure that it kills itself while you sleep.
