PIAA Headlights

Discussion of Infiniti's amazing (and underrated) sport-luxury crossovers, the EX35 and EX37. For 2014, the EX series will be renamed QX50, in line with Ininfiit's new naming conventions.

Hi,

FYI..

I did HID mod from DDM today.
For 2010 EX model, there were no holes or gaps inside of the headlamp housing. It seems that Infiniti canged the design, and it was completely sealed. I drilled 1 inch hole on the gray seal cover and used rubber seal from DDM.

thanks...

Thanks for the update. Any problem or tips during the installation? How do like it so far?

smoon4, any pictures would be appreciated! especially night shots from the driver's point of view (not just against a wall to see the cut off, but also how far the light goes 'on the road')

thx

Sorry for the crappy images. These were taken long time ago.

The top light which is further up front is a low beam DDM 35W 6000K. The bottom wide yellow beam is a 3000K DDM . The fog is deep yellow in real life.

LOW BEAM below, not very wide as OEM but better than stock bulb. I was facing a wall this time, but the light is just hitting the lower part of the wall, since I was park further from the wall.

Hi, AWGD8

Thanks to your detailed instructions, I had no issue in general. The connector and the placement of the unit were easy to figure out. For the wheel cover, I could parcially remove the front portion without removing the wheel. About 5-6 inch gap was enough to work on. I followed your instruction as one side at a time.

The light is much brighter than stock one. I had 5000K, and it was true white.. For the fog lamp, I replaced it with 8500K halogen (HID like) bulbs. Two lights (Low & Fog) were good match.
At night, I tested..It was day & night difference.. Much brighter and could see much far...Maybe, it is nature of the HID light, but I could notice some patterns on the projected light (slightly different shades)...Well, I am happy with the choice that you recommanded.. DDM units were very solid and well made. Mine had bare connectors which connected to the original Low-lamp female section, so, I bought male H11 connector from Ebay at cheap price...

Thanks....

Ouch, I don't like the sound of that. Don't like messing with factory components even if they are so small as those plastic covers. Are you sure you looked there below the low beam housing tube, where AWGD8 indicated holes would be?

Can you also tell me, does 5000K bulb you got from DDM have a hint of blue when you look at the light, and how similar does it look to stock HID lights bulbs (which I believe are 4300K) that you can see factory installed in todays cars?

Hi,

I could not see any tiny opennings inside of the headlamp assembly. At night, I put a flashlight into the headlamp assembly to see if any holes or gaps where I can see any sights...Well..none..Only areas that I could see and thought a gap were fully covered & sealed with glass. Yes, I hated to drill holes on the gray cover, but it was minor loss. However, its functionalty is intact & no issue.

5000K is pure white..yes, real white...I have not seen the stock HID, but compared with 6000K LED..6000K has a little blue tint..Well, both are good options 5000K & 6000K from DDM..Maybe additional set of 6000K for a spare...cost $15 more...
