So... Last night, my engine start clicking and clacking as if a screw was loose inside.... While trying to make it to the shop, the engine cut out and died on me... Stranded on the Highway a Tow truck came and took it to a shop... Leaking Oil, injured pride, we got to the shop and what they found was most unnerving.... The starter had some how got to the fly wheel which caused the loud bang and rattle noise i heard just before the engine died. The starter and flywheel needs replacement... I wait for more news regarding the oil leak... and waiting for my own mechanic to open up so i can unleash hell about my starter they replaced.... Looks like im done with the R50... My 2012 Altima Coupe is currently en route to the dealer, wait time is 2 more weeks... untill then :(

EDIT :: TRUCK IS TOASTED, ONE OF THE PISTONS BLEW APART INSIDE THE ENGINE

TRUCK HAS BEEN SOLD AS IS AS A WHOLE TO A NISSAN MECHANIC WHO HAS INTENTIONS OF REBUILDING AND KEEPING FOR THE PURPOSE TO TRANSFER RESCUE PITBULLS. AFTER CHATTING WITH THE BUYER I COULD SEE THAT MY TRUCK WOULD BE GOING TO A GREAT HOME AND I WISH IT ALL THE BEST IN ITS NEW LIFE AND OWNER AND I WILL BE ABLE TO REST EASY KNOWING ITS GOING TO A GOOD HOME.

Man, that sucks. When I was reading your post first thing that popped into my head was a power valve screw coming loose, but that isn't the case as you said.

Hope you enjoy the Altima Coupe.

White 2012 V6 6MT COUPE! < - must keep it white :)

If it really IS the starter that caused the issue... I should be good, I need to get a hold of my shop and talk to them because if it is, WARRANTY. They are fixing my truck and even replacing the engine if they need to. I dont care what else broke on it because of the starter, they are going to fix it. I could have died on the highway, a Bus nearly rammed me through the windshield along with my girlfriend.

Tomorrow is judgement day. I will be calling the shop and telling them straight up that the starter was found destroyed next to my fly wheel. They will pay for the tow to their shop and i will demand repairs.

You make it sound as if the starter should never ever contact the flywheel, you know the starter gear spins the flywheel to start the engine right??

If something broke, why do you think the shop is going to foot the bill??

And you make it sound like the fly wheel is supposed to go flying down the highway causing my starter to warp out of shape. As well as causing my engine to leak oil like a fat b**** with a serious Rag.

As well you make it sound as if a Shop with Warranty wont warranty their work. THEY installed the starter within the last 3 months. If my starter is the cause of this whole f*** THEY will be the ones footing the bill.

honest mechanics, talk ed to them just now.... So far its still a grey area, the starter is definitely busted.... we dont know just yet. Mechanic is honest and had an insurance adjuster that represented BOSCH come in to document and see what can be done. Best case, they replace, worse case, I pay pretty much....

Sounds like the Starter was not the culprit... Mechanics are wrestling with the starter to get it out but its so serverly damaged that they are unable to. So far, They believe that i will need need new transmission engine and the works...... I am crushed.... They ask that I give them 1 more day to see if they can somehow salvage it and save it... 1 more day it is... I don't know what I'm going to do with it... I may try to sell it as a whole... but pull my head unit and sub/amps out... Anyone else got any ideas? That or I'llk salvage everything and anything i can and put it into my Altima when it comes in.... or maybe pick up another pathy if i can find the money for it ._.

Verdict is in. One of the pistons blew which caused the whole big bang theory... Would not be surprised if the power valve screw was the cause of it... Time to part out and see it off to the yard..... 2600 for a new engine just isnt worth it to me...

Wow, that really sucks,

If your going to part it out, I would probably be interested in getting some odds and ends,

how much would you want for the wheels?

That really sucks... and makes me want to go out right now and do the power valve fix. I haven't done it on this Pathy yet... even though I've already changed the spark plugs. (Cross-threading the screw for an ignition coil and having to drill and tap a hole in the engine block kind of killed that day, I didn't want to do anything else.)

But, like Chris said, let me know if you're parting it out -- I'm just a province away.

Good luck with the Altima! Glad to see you're sticking with Nissan.

It's definitely unfortunate if your Pathfinder was likely another victim of one or more power valve screws coming loose. :(

Good luck with the Altima. Definitely let us know if you'll be parting out your Pathfinder, and do stick around NICO - at least the Altima forums! :)

When I get the truck brought back to my place and some jack stands, Ill give you a shout, [email protected] <- email me for now so i have your contact and ill have you come by and give you first dibs on everything i havent ripped out yet. Mostly will just be my head unit, amps and subs. maybe some wire... Everything else you can go through take your pick and ill either give it to you or be fairly cheap. I would much rather my parts go to someone who appreciates and loves these vehicles then redneck joe whos just going to destroy it.

and to all others who are a ways away, Email me what you want and ill do my best to pull em out and ship it. Well discuss pricing and all and methods of payment. The vehicle is still a whole at this point.

AND chances are ill be keeping the vehicle till end of JUNE so plenty of time to pick your parts. AGAIN ITS A 2002 WHITE NISSAN PATHFINDER WITH WOOD TRIM. has the detachable wing (the one that isnt hinged) have smoked altezza tail lights (id like to sell those, they are nice)

Feel free to email me like all else. If you are able to give me a good offer on the vehicle as a whole, i will gladly sell to you as well. Wheels DO HAVE CURB RASH (courtesy of previous owners) and like Chris, you are free to pop by and take a look at my truck. Will more then likely pull your own part kind of deal as well so bring tools! Ill be too busy working and pulling my own parts off "universal" parts off that i can donor into my Altima

Id like to get the fog light housings and the headlight clips if possible. And also the dash insert pieces and some small things like that if you will part it out.

Elaborate as to what you mean by head light clips. If this is part of the head lights, you will have to take the whole thing. They are aftermarkets. Specify which dash inserts. Fog light housings, may have been compromised since i installed HID's into them and had to cut the cap slightly to fit the wiring. Again, E-mail E-mai E-mail for immediate response. It is tethered to my phone. Please note if I am required to ship, Buyer will be responsible for the shipping.

Yes i bought a new "housing" for the lights, my old ones were rusted bad. ATM i may have a buyer for my truck... I will be taking everything i can off of it to donor it to the Altima. Some of the lights will work. I will keep everyone up to date as to the condition and decisions on my Pathy.

high stop lamps are halogens though.

Ok.. .So a bump, I have opted to Part out my vehicle unless there is someone willing to buy as a whole (local) Again the vehilce only requires an engine. Seeing as I have a Baby on the way (found out the other night) I just cant hang on to this old Bass machine of mine... Hate to see this baby go but I do hope that it's parts go to a good owner. This truck has served me well. Start emailing requests!
