OK, first the backstory:
2003 4x4 pathfinder making noise and vibration between 40-50mph. Before and after its fine, nice and smooth.
I first thought that it might be wheel out of balance, which it was out of balance, but that didnt fix it. Sears (where I bought the tires) also said the truck was out of alignment.
Took it to a different shop today (sears is 109 for alignment, this was 40) and they said they thought the problem was a bearing.
The alignment WAS off, thats fixed, but the vibration is still there.

Problem is that they want 481$ for the job.

They said they tried tightening the bearing, that it had an adjustment on it, but it didnt fix it.

I've not done bearings on this vehicle before, or any four wheel drive for that matter.
What is the process?
And what bearings do i need? I would prefer to buy from a local bearing distributor who is cheaper than dealership and advance auto etc

please, any help is GREATLY appreciated!

hmm...
Im guessing they have checked the ball joints (loose) / sway bar links? (bushings)

usually bearings inhibit NOISE...howling...growling...whistling

yngw13 - i do not know if they checked those things - how can I check those? Im sorry, this is my first 4x4 vehicle and i've never done driveline stuff before, im noob to it

like i said, im only getting noise and vibration between 40-50mph

on another site I joined yesteday someone said to check Ujoints, but I dont know anything about that either (thenissanpath.com)

towncivilian - thanks for that! excellent write up!
to be honest, and this will likely get me in trouble, ive been on here before, but do not recall the name, it was a few years back when I first got this truck. I just signed back up cause I needed help quick

I am glad that NICO forwards all messages to email! keeps me in touch with what you guys are saying!

please, any help is appreciated
hoping to fix this on Monday, supposed to be abotu 62 degrees and I have the whole day free
while im not experienced with driveline stuff (on a car/truck), I am mechanically inclined a little bit, so i am hoping to tackle this job myself (with the aid of my father if needed)

Jack up the front end and try to shake the wheels side to side and see if you get any play at all. If you do, you have a loose bearing.
