sweet looking car broadfield.. I have a few questions that I was hoping you could answer...

Your carpet looks really nice, when you ordered it did you get just the coupe carpet in black color? Do you recommend using a heat gun and or carpet adhesive?

http://www.automotivecarpet.com/catalog/

I think I read that you purchased your carpet from those guys ^

I am looking to redo my headliner in suede, how do you recommend I remove the stock material? Would I just rip off the fabric and use the 3m adhesive remover? I have been told when applying the suede to use a contact cement with a foam brush that ensure that the suede will not sag. I have also read that a heat gun can help the suede to conform to all the curves? What do you recommend?

Well, you don't have to be exact at all.

Things needed: A small 90 degree hook pick, 3M blue masking tape, 3M Super Trim Adhesive(probably can't buy this in the stores), razor blade, adhesive remover and some newspaper/packing paper/plastic etc.(anything to cover up the door card where you don't want glue)

1st: Clean the area REALLY well with adhesive remover (I like 3M).

2nd: Use blue 3M masking tape to tape off the area to be glued. -You need to tape to the outside vertical wall of the valley. -I use a long piece of tape on the straights and a bunch of small pieces around the radius. -I use the 90 degree pick to help push the tape onto the vertical wall. -then fold over the tape onto the door card. -next tape paper etc. onto the tape that is folded over to mask off the entire door card.

3rd: Spray adhesive onto the area not taped off and onto the material being used. -don't worry about getting spray adhesive past where you need it on the material....actually it is recommended. -you will let the adhesive set up per directions.... usually at least 5 minutes, but no longer than 60 minutes.

4th: Next pull off all the paper and tape.

5th: Apply your material onto the card. Make sure it is big enough to cover each direction by several inches. -note: the glue will only stick to itself. So that's why it doesn't matter that you have extra glue on the material.... because it will not stick onto any of the plastic that doesn't have glue.

6th: Work the material onto the card making sure to stretch this way and that so you do not get any wrinkles etc. -use a lot of force to work the material onto the card.... ESPECIALLY in the corners. -keep applying pressure as you rub your fingers, thumb whatever back and forth over the material. -even after step 8, I will still keep rubbing the material onto the card firmly.....ESPECIALLY in the corners. -even after I wake up the next morning, I will go over it again applying pressure. -most glues don't fully cure for 24 hours at 75 degrees. -the material should extend at least a few inches past the valley.

7th: Use the hook pic to push the material all the way down into the valley.-Obviously make sure not to catch the end of the pic on the material. I use it at an angle so the end is sticking out of the valley. -you can usually just pull or push the pic through the valley and it will pull the material down in. -so you will obviously have extra material sticking out of the valley now.

8th: Take a razor blade and carefully run it around down inside the valley. -this will make a perfect cut down inside there and the extra material will come right off. -I like to wrap the same blue masking tape around the razor blade except for the last 1/4" of the tip. -that way the rest of the blade has no chance of catching on the material on the walls of the valley.

Finished product with perfect results:

Thanks guys!

Well I don't do interior work for a living, I just do it for myself. I "modify" interiors and fabricate interior parts somewhat for a living, but that's about it.

Broadfield or Toby (I picked up on it lol), thank you SO much for the write up on how to replace the door fabric. I actually feel like I might try to tackle that someday now. I had no idea how to get the fabric in the valley without it looking like crap.

Any suggestions on flexible materials to use? Yours looks like a form of tweed with the bride logo.

Nice work nonetheless.

God I hate you

Remember last year on the way to Nashville(Import Alliance) when you took your shoes off for the ride. We get to the show and your socks had dripped off about a billion little white cotton balls that stuck into my perfectly BLACK floor mats. Then I made you sit there and pick every single one off! I just love when you ride in my car!

I won't even start with the food thing.

Dude, that's the least of the worries. Both cards have been done for a while now. I simply did the first one and eyeballed it for center. Then I measured that one to where the "I" was in "BRIDE" and marked that same location on the other card with a piece of blue masking tape..... done deal.

Anything that stretches well is recommended. Super suede isn't bad. You can use a multi-stretch vinyl with a heat gun and get great results. You can use speaker box carpet etc. I prefer something that has a little thickness to it or has a thin foam backing. That way it fills the valley nicely.

I'm trying to decide if I want to drop the coin on the tach or a nardi deep corn this week... maybe I will just be irresponsible and get both. The tach is gonna be a lot harder to find, so I should cop that first- nardis have been backordered almost everywhere for over a month, but aspec just got some in. I'll let you know as soon as I have it!

Everything has been done, but then I pulled the quarters for the new wheels, then it went to the body shop for 2 weeks and now I am waiting for my guy to do a photo shoot on it. I have also been working 100 hour weeks the past couple weeks. Then my house got hit by a bad lightning strike..... so needless to say I haven't had time to really take any pics myself. Not that I even take pics anymore since they suck compared to what Kyle can do.

But soon I will have pics of the finished work.

"Hate" is an awfully strong word don't you think!?!

"My" professional photographer is not even a professional. He's just my really good friend that happens to be amazing with a camera. Could he do it as a profession?.... you bet your shorts! But for now he does it for free and goes to school and has multiple jobs. So needless to say, neither one of us have enough free time to worry about getting pictures of my car up on Nico. However, if you make it out to Import Alliance in Nashville at the end of the month, you can sit in the damn thing

Drivelinestore.com stocks all of the material..... talk to Eric. Tell him Toby Broadfield sent ya.

It's been to the strip a couple times, but that's about all the free time I can muster. It's to the point that I would rather track a shell that wasn't so nice. I still daily it, except in the salt. But otherwise I do drive in the winter.
