I painted this last week... The mid grade Maaco job red and rhinoliner. They hooked me up because I know the managers son. But paid 253 with tax and did the black liner myself....

why are you all saying i didnt tape off the window molding i said i did in a previous post. I just used electrical tape that's why u can't tell. I'll just post more pics when it's closer to being done i guess i should have waited longer then the first coat aha

it just looks like you didn't tape off cuz theres paint on the molding on the windows, some on the otherwise unpainted bumper, and the taillights

yeah you should use masking tape to mask off the rubber and such...electrical tape doesn't seal it off as good

don't let em get you down... the rustoleum jobs always look like s*** till the end product. it's because the coats are so thin...

i rolled mine black first at the beginning of the year with pretty good results.

then i redid it in white(kept the roof black) because i wanted something different.

it holds up just fine and can be cut and polished to a great finish if you do it right. it's all about the time you put into it. if your prep work(tape is your friend) and finish work are up to par, then you'll be happy with the outcome. no one even knows mine is rolled on (until now... secrets out )

it has potential. let's see the finished product...

Common, yes, the paint job does look common. Needs more work and more tape.

#1. That is not painting a car red. That is half assing a first coat of a roll on paint job. And, if this thread was made so that we could have an idea of what color it is going to be, then keep painting and then let us know. All I see is the primer peaking through all the streaks in your paint.#2. If you would like it to look good then you will need some tape.#3. Prep work looks to be minimal with only some sanding.#4. If you are defending this paint job, then you are a fool and absolutely have no sense. Maaco costs less, will get a better result and there are no headaches. You probably have spent more on paint and sanding paper then you would to have maaco paint the whole car.

That might be the case if you have half a clue, and you tape off areas such as the mouldings and places that shouldnt be painted. He is going to need twice as much sand paper as a spray job would to get the surface half decent. Also, how do YOU know that that is the paint he used and so forth. Like I said though, only a fool could defend such a blastphamy, and I would think that the only thing more foolish then painting a car with a roller, would be painting it with a wagner power painter or something like that. I knew a guy that did that once too and I made a joke of that too.

I'm just saying.

Even if he spent $100 and used the same methods as in that link, it still wouldn't be as much as the cheapest maaco job.

P.S. I'm buying your SR off of you if you still have it during the winter.

like blacksarejdm said i would just save for a real paint job. There are clear differences between a good paint job and a bad paint job and they usually look the same from about 50 feet away.

laid down the second coat today startin to look better, will probably wetsand tomorrow after work and continue with adding more coats.

I picked up a roll of painters tape when I went to buy the paint, but it came out to about 2$ more then I had so I put it back. I know I could have taped off the tail lights but honestly I don't care that much I'll fix it later

As for the window trim the electical tape is working okay.

Also I paid about 41$ for the paint, mineral spirits, rollers, and trays

Just paint OVER the tails and replace them with Kouki's.

you could have removed the taillights and painted everything.. the best jobs are complete ones, i.e. remove all trim, lights, take whatever you can off/apart and paint separately. If you can't afford $2 masking tape, wait till you can to start the job. Seriously, thats like starting an oil change with 1 quart of oil and no filter.

personally i like the flat black, but its your car and i think it will turn out fine. even if it doesn't its not like your gonna be hittin random stuff with it anyways. roll jobs take a lot of time and ALOT of wet sanding.
