Nice. I wish I had gotten this one instead of the GROM box as the GROM audio quality is quite poor.

Can you tell me what speaker setup you have?

I agree with Riggz. Grom had a good idea, but implemented it poorly. I'm getting more and more static now in my songs. Their issue is their flimsy connections on the actual units. I've had two of them, both had the problem.

How much did this cost? I prefer the ease of a USB drive, but I guess I could use my HTC EVO to store my music and just control it from that. How long are the cables once you've run them to the right spots? Can you pick your device up high enough in front of you to see the road? Or do the steering wheel controls work (that would be awesome!)? How much?

Also, I'm stickying this in the FAQ thread. I might expand on your HowTo if I decide to get this (pending the answers you give me to the questions above).

Thanks!

I paid $129.99 on eBay with free shipping. The cable from the xm unit to the interface is 15 feet long. Once I ran it from the trunk to under the passenger seat I had about 2 feet or so left so I velcro tied it. The cable from the interface to ipod is 5 feet long. Plenty of cable to pick up your ipod and hold it for direct input. BTW, the steering wheel buttons work as do the radio knobs and buttons. The text displays on the nav screen too. When I plug my ipod in the radio automatically switches to that source and my ipod starts to play. The interface really does work as advertised. I don't have an iphone so I got a buddy of mine to plug his iphone 4 in and the radio automatically switched to to his iphone and started to play music he had stored. He stoped the music and started some streaming video over the internet and it played that too.

The only one thing I don't like about it is when I'm done with my ipod and I want to switch back to xm I have to cycle through the audio sources to get it to play (am then fm then xm). When xm comes up it looks like all my preset stations are gone but they're really not. Just the preset labels are temporarily not displayed. I change the screen (go to map or status or anything) and back to radio and my preset labels appear again. Not a big deal because I usually just go back to map and leave it there.

As far as playing your EVO goes the only restrictions I can see is where your choice of mounting the interface is and how long your 3.5mm cable is. The 3.5mm cable doesn't come included. You'll need to get a rca to 3.5mm.

Oh, one thing I forgot to mention in my original post. There's a ground wire on the Y harness the instructions say you may or may not need to attach and they explain why very clearly. I did not need to attach it.

Hope this helps.

Dude. Awesome.

I have a lot of friends with iSomethings (I don't like Apple :) ) and if the quality is good, I'm going to plan on getting it (maybe when I do the rest of my system since I'll be back there anyway.

Thanks!

That sounds like a great unit to add to the car!

And for those of you needing that RCA to 1/8" (3.5mm, minijack, whatever) cable that ellis mentioned, here you go for a great quality and cheap cable:

When the car is in park with the parking brake on, can you see the video?

Just the audio can be heard over the car stereo speakers when playing my ipod or my friend's iphone. There will never be any video on the nav screen as the PA15-INFI is and audio only interface. NO VIDEO ON THE NAV SCREEN but you could see the video on his iphone and hear it over the car speakers.

Listened to some Slacker radio and some songs I have on my phone (TP2) with the 3.5mm cable yesterday. Volume level was great. No issue at all with it being loud enough. Sound quality was really good.

You were asking about how high you reach with the cable. With the cable plugged into my ipod I could touch it to the top of the driver's side window.

Plenty of slack then for passengers to plug in their devices and not have to lean between the front seats lol.

Nice, thanks man. Definitely considering switching to this product from the Grom. Just gotta see if my car is pre-wired for the XM cause I want to buy that too (the XM unit). It's like $350.

Great info, thanks for the write-up Blake. How's the bass output? I read elsewhere it's not that great.

Can't get much worse than the Grom. Bass is virtually non-existant. Only mids and highs. For a while, I resorted to burning MP3 CD's again because it sounded 100x better.

The bass is good. Not just mids and highs. I use the "rock" eq setting on my ipod. On my TP2 cell phone I bumped the pre amp up to 4 then set up a california curve and the bass is fine. But you can only polish a turd so much. If the sound quality on your device (ipod, iphone, cell phone, etc.) sucks then it's going to suck just as much coming from your car stereo too.

Was thinking about getting an EVO. Contract is up this month. How's the mp3 player? Does it have a pre amp and eq? Is there an app for that? I like what the guys on xda are saying about it.

The stock player doesn't have anything fancy, but I use Mixzing and that has an eq, etc. PowerAMP is another app that is decent from what I hear.

Love this phone.

PowerAMP rocks! I had the trial and loved it so much I paid the$ 5 for it. Blows the stock player out of the water.

I installed this on my 2007 M35 Sport this weekend and I am really impressed. Thank you for posting your install. This is what I used to install mine. I bought it from crutchfield and when I contacted them to help with the install, they were clueless when it comes to this car. I am very pleased with the sound. Would have liked to maintain a little more bass, but I will have to get some aftermarket subs for that. I would definately recommend this product to car owners.

Another follow up question. But, first of all this is a great group with good info. Anyone have good feedback for "snaking" the main wire from the SAT unit through the back seat?

I have removed the bottom part of the back seat, and identified the hole indicated in the first posting. The steel wall between the seat and the trunk is a great barrier. So good that I cannot seem to figure a way past it.

Any thoughts? Thanks in advance.

I took the backrest out and snaked it through. After you get the seat bottom out there are four nuts you have to unscrew then just lift the backrest out. The backrest hangs on some L-brackets so you literally have to lift the setback up and then out. Happy snaking!!!

I tried it with my new iPad the other day and it was flawless. Hit preset number 5 and streamed Pandora for four hours and the battery stayed at 100%. I think the iPad only likes the wall charger for charging. The important thing to me was that the PA15-INF maintained the charge I had on my iPad when I connected it.

It does in fact charge the iPad. I plugged it in at 50% and it charged my iPad to 100% while streaming Pandora. So should we call it an iPod/iPad audio interface now?
