Hi all, new forum and pathy owner. Recently bought an 01 and have run into an issue im hoping someone else has had. I was told the water pump housing was broken when I bought it, when we changed it we realized it was fine and it was actually the fan clutch. The bearings seized up and so I began the process of tracking down all the parts (PIA), finally got all the parts, got the timing chain lined up (I hope), and everything put back together. When I started the car, it was running really rough, then it was perfect, started it again and it started overheating and my engine light was on. Pulled the codes, multiple misfire, p1140 (has had that code since I bought it.) and p1130. Has anyone else had a similar issue or any idea on what direction I should go? I don't want to start replacing every sensor or whatever if I don't have to.

Hi, welcome to Nico!

Sorry, I've been meaning to reply but haven't had the chance to. I'll post back when I can do a little research, but in the meantime, try searching for those codes in the search bar at the top of the forum if you haven't already.

The P1140 code is probably what's causing your rough idle problem. Try swapping the two similar cam sensors on the driver's and passenger's sides and clear your codes. If you now get a P1145, replace the sensor that's on the driver's side. If you get P1140 again, then try cleaning your as discussed in this thread. If still no dice then break out the ohmmeter and test the crank sensors and start looking over your wiring for shorts, bad connections, etc.

P1130 indicates a problem with the swirl control solenoid valve. It shouldn't cause any huge driveability issues. Check out this post for how to go about tackling it.

Well before I switch the sensors around all the screws in the fan clutch came off (while driving!) and my fan went all crazy. Got new screws put on, drove it quite a bit, and it started overheating. Pulled over, at 845 pm with my 8 yr. old, and again lost the screws to the damn fan! Waited till it cooled off, added water, pulled the fan out and drove home without one! I've been on the hunt for the fan blades. I pick them up tomorrow after calling just about everywhere to find a local one. Will swap sensors before I put it all together.

Aw man, that's some kind of luck! Sounds like a good excuse to do an electric fan conversion though :chuckle:

I was actually kinda thinking about that earlier.. But very very new this whole diy car thing. I've wanted a pathfinder for years so I could be able to build it the way I want to.. But am learning the basics at the same time, lol. I looked on here for some guidance on the conversion but didn't see much. I have a couple more places to check out tomorrow, and then pick a part 2 hours away (showing 6 pathfinders 90-00). If those don't work, I might say screw it and go electric. Can you give me pros and cons to electric?! And any other helpful info on my journey lol

AHHHHHHHHHHHHHH! this car is going to be the death of me! Update: never found blades, so I went with everyone else's suggestions and used my old ones. Started fine, got a few miles from my daughters softball game and bam starts overheating. Pull over let it cool down for a min, notice the vacuum lines were messed up? Fixed those and went on my way because we were horribly late as it was. After the games some 4\5 hours later I Checked and refilled radiator , and prayed she made it home. She was damn near perfect! Took her for a little drivr later that night to make sure all was okay. And not one indication of anything . next morning (Sunday) I go down to the store to grab a soda (literally less than 2 miles from my house) on my way home I heard something like the fan belt, turned down my radio and every light on my dash came on like it died. Lost power steering as well, coasted into my driveway threw it in park and turned off the key, felt the motor turn off, wtf. Open the hood and the belt was just hanging tbere, because the pulley bracket broke in half. Everyone that has seen the part says how.in the world is that even possible. I have no idea, I'm a single mom who has never done more than check/refill the fluids and tire pressure. This is all new to me but I'm learning.

Hi, sorry, I've been away from the forums for a while. I saw your other post. So, to clarify, the point you're at now is the fan and overheating issues are squared away, and you're focusing on codes P1130, P1140 and P0300, correct?

What happened when you swapped the driver and passenger cam sensors? Did the code change, or did you get the same one? Remember that you'll need an OBD reader to clear the codes after you try this.
