whatever happened aside, no that is not normal. glad that the shop is being so cool about the situation and that you are willing to give it another go.

all i say is you have a nice shop working on your car, if they'll cover labor for you. you better kiss some *** :)

im glad i just got my hands on the techtom cmx 100. the l.e.d.'s for the water temp are almost so bright you can't keep your eyes off of them.

You know what - the more I think about it, the more I think the thermostat stuck and it just took alot of heat load to make the stock gauge move and kill the block. Not really anybody's fault, just a defective part and the overheating wasn't caught in time.

My SR personally runs almost ridiculously cold. With a Koyo Rad, stock thermostat and GReddy oil pan the water temps stay at 175*F solid under cruising(measured at the outlet) and the oil temps drop to 120*F or BELOW(measured in the oil pan) with steady cruising in 70*F weather. I think the GReddy oil pan provides enough oil cooling to drop the oil to ridiculously low levels.

With the water temp, I've let the gauge go up to 210*F at idle before and the stock temp gauge NEVER moved a hair. One time without the fans wired up the temp went up high enough where the stock gauge started creeping up, but I started moving shortly after that so everything was fine. I'd say that by the time the stock gauge pegged at the H level, things are already WAY too hot.

Oh well - stupid stock temp gauges.

yup, my car once hit 240* during a burnout and the stock gauge did not move. interestingly enough my oil was still less than 200* at the time.

maybe you should get a temp gauge that beeps at you when its overheating since you dont like to look at the gauges, my sr runs at 180deg F. and has yet to go over that while driving normally. I also have a gauge I like to look at to make sure everything is fine.

so the shop got a hold of the a new long block and installed it.....they said it is running slow so they think it is just the timing needs to be advanced.

also cullen mentioned that my old ECU was fried. How does that happen?

suggestions???
