For the most bang for your buck I'd go with what I'm using.Ksport Kontrol Pro Fully Adjustable Coiloverhttp://intensepower.com/kskoprofuadc.html$600-700.
You got same problem I had on my civic hatch with skunk2 coils on them. Some coilovers have only one way to adjust ride height, and that's by lowering the spring mount. What that does is create alot of unsprung weight which is very dangerous. Hit a bump the wrong way and you could go flying off the road.
The Ksports I got from Intense is exactly what I was looking for and was well within my price range. It has adjustable spring height mount as well as the Lower bracket is adjustable. This allows you to tighten the spring mount up snug to the spring so the spring is still tight to the top mount even if u jack your car off the ground. Adjusting the lower mount allows you to raise or lower your car. With the 2 separate adjustments I can now jack my car off the ground and the wheels only drop down about 2inches!!Suspension is really tight now. What makes it even more great is the dampers are 36way adjustable. I turn it all the way soft for daily driving and when I go to the track I turn it all the way hard. Sticks to the road very well at high speeds. Drifts are more controlled too without the car doing that rocking/swaying motion.Reason your shocks blew was because stock shocks aren't designed to operate on lowered cars. After about a week of driving and letting my springs settle I snugged up the lower spring mount and its perfect.I don't recommend slamming it to the ground though..... a speed bump killed my muffler. Put a baseball size hole in the can and bent it upwards so it looks like a ricer muffler angled up and to the left.
