Lies. You're still getting it.
They're 2 different types of games completely. It's like comparing NFS: Most Wanted to Forza 2. Sure, you both drive cars around, but it's not the same thing...
I'm going to wait to see how it plays out before I buy it....the first OF sucked hard for Xbox...i want to make sure this isn't the same deal.
True on the comparison and true on the first OFP however you have to understand that the first OFP on the old Xbox was a poorly done port of a 4 year old game, I have both the PC and xbox version of the original OFP and have to say that for it's time it was pretty much one of those PC killers, at max settings it was known to bog down anything but the best gaming rig of the time. Then 4 years later they ported it over to the X-Box and because the control layout for soldier, vehicle and aircraft were so extensive they couldn't really get it to work out properly on the X-Box controller. Also by the time they ported it it was dated and couldn't really compete with the games that were out at the time. 4 years is a long time in the life of a PC game and PC tech. Actually I believe the Xbox version contained both the original game and the expansion pack, but you couldn't play the expansion until you finished the original.
Jump forward 10 years, the tech is way advanced and consoles are built to run pretty much the same as most PC's out there, they decided to build both a PC version and a console version with the same basic controls, graphics and game play, the only thing that is really different between the 2 is that the PC version will allow the use of a flight stick and rudder pedals and the mission editor is built in, besides that they are essentially the same game. Personally I think that when ARMA 2 drops for the consoles that we'll see that OFP:DR is the better game, Why ARMA 2 is waiting to drop for the consoles just says that they are building a separate version with a lightened control layout and a lightened version of the game code which says a lot between the two developers.
This game may break through the FPS stereo type and give those hardcore MW gamers something new and exciting to play. My biggest question is how good is the multi-player going to be, but from the previews I've read the co-op mode is absolutely stellar, on par with the co-op for GOW and Halo but more realistic.
Edit: I'd also like to add a couple cool facts about this game.
-There is limb dismemberment and intense levels of blood and gore in this game, just like in real life, you step on a mine you lose a foot, you get shot in the leg or arm by a .50 machine gun or sniper rifle, you lose that leg or arm.
- Headshots WILL kill you
- This isn't like COD or any other FPS, you get shot you will bleed to death unless you get your wounds treated by a medic.
- If you get shot in the leg don't expect to run anywhere, you get hit in the arm you accuracy WILL be affected.
- You can try to use the COD run and gun method, but you'll die pretty quickly, real tactics have to be used to succeed at this game.
- Enemy AI will flank you even when you are trying to flank them, suppressing fire is a must.
- There is a 24 hour weather cycle, but no rain unfortunately.
- There is no jump button, but you there is an interact button that will allow you to jump over small obstacles, vault fences, enter buildings.
- You can swim but only on the surface.
- This is intended to be a real - life combat simulator, so the whole island is open and nothing is scripted, just like in the GTA games. So if you are on a mission and decide to leave your squad somewhere to go it alone don't think you'll get very far, enemy patrols will find you and kill you without your squad there to support you.
- Finally, your gears weight will affect how you move, so if you go for a machine gunner loadout don't expect to be able to run as fast as your lighter squad mates armed with M4's and vice versa. Oh and there is no such thing as infinite running, if you are laden down with a 249 and loads of ammo you'll run a significantly shorter distance than if you have an M4.
The head developer has stated in the latest press release that the weapon's accuracy is top notch however it's really hard to actually kill people until you have tons of practice just like in real life. So don't expect to be getting head shots all the time when you first start playing it.
