Nice find! I thought this wasn't coming out until 2010. Looks good, and the hardcore mode really appeals to the super-accurate sim fan in me, even considering my previous remarks about MW2. The freestyle method to accomplish mission goals is great and makes each engagement as unique as the commanders running the op. I wonder if it will support flightsticks for the various rotary winged vehicles.

I might actually pick this one up. Damn you Chaotic! More money gone before I get it!

Its all good though, anything that gives me the chance to kill a few of DAT's is ok in my book.

The PC version has a different control layout which allows more freedom due to not being pinned to controller like a console. So as far as being able to use a flight stick and rudder pedals for the aircraft I don't see why they wouldn't offer it. I would also like to point out that the PC version will have a mission editor built in that is the exact same editor used to build the game, so the replay value is infinite due to never running out of missions as long as you still have an imagination. ARMA 2 offers the same feature, but it's not as in depth as OFP:DR is offering, but it has a much larger follower so the mods will come faster. ARMA 2 may not come to a console until early next year, but it is already out for the PC, you can download the demo through Steam.

That's one of the things that made Crysis great. So in a game like this focused on realism, it should be incredible. Half the fun will be scouting out the best approach and making it work.

I'll be playing on the 360. I couldn't imagine the PC version not having the flightstick/rudder capability. And even though the 360 controller has some passing similarity to a flightstick its certainly not a real HOTAS setup.

I'll need to do some reading and see what's what on the game, but all in all it looks like it will be added to my library.

You don't want to scout around for to long, as I have said before in other threads you have a full free roam and free play capability but like in real life you do have a time limit to get to certain objectives, after all squads of enemy infantry and artillery batteries don't stay in one place for long.

I have pre-ordered the 360 version and honestly if this is as good as they are promising I may not play anything else for a while. I've been waiting for a game like this to come out on the 360 for a while now, America's Army was horrid and Full Spectrum Warrior was more a FP style RTS. I want to be able to go on a sniper mission and call in artillery to cover my exfil or call in armor to help with a hard target. Plus you get to drive tanks and fly helicotpers, It's Battlefield Modern Combat and a warfighter reality sim built into one game.

Lies. You're still getting it.

They're 2 different types of games completely. It's like comparing NFS: Most Wanted to Forza 2. Sure, you both drive cars around, but it's not the same thing...

I'm going to wait to see how it plays out before I buy it....the first OF sucked hard for Xbox...i want to make sure this isn't the same deal.

True on the comparison and true on the first OFP however you have to understand that the first OFP on the old Xbox was a poorly done port of a 4 year old game, I have both the PC and xbox version of the original OFP and have to say that for it's time it was pretty much one of those PC killers, at max settings it was known to bog down anything but the best gaming rig of the time. Then 4 years later they ported it over to the X-Box and because the control layout for soldier, vehicle and aircraft were so extensive they couldn't really get it to work out properly on the X-Box controller. Also by the time they ported it it was dated and couldn't really compete with the games that were out at the time. 4 years is a long time in the life of a PC game and PC tech. Actually I believe the Xbox version contained both the original game and the expansion pack, but you couldn't play the expansion until you finished the original.

Jump forward 10 years, the tech is way advanced and consoles are built to run pretty much the same as most PC's out there, they decided to build both a PC version and a console version with the same basic controls, graphics and game play, the only thing that is really different between the 2 is that the PC version will allow the use of a flight stick and rudder pedals and the mission editor is built in, besides that they are essentially the same game. Personally I think that when ARMA 2 drops for the consoles that we'll see that OFP:DR is the better game, Why ARMA 2 is waiting to drop for the consoles just says that they are building a separate version with a lightened control layout and a lightened version of the game code which says a lot between the two developers.

This game may break through the FPS stereo type and give those hardcore MW gamers something new and exciting to play. My biggest question is how good is the multi-player going to be, but from the previews I've read the co-op mode is absolutely stellar, on par with the co-op for GOW and Halo but more realistic.

Edit: I'd also like to add a couple cool facts about this game.

-There is limb dismemberment and intense levels of blood and gore in this game, just like in real life, you step on a mine you lose a foot, you get shot in the leg or arm by a .50 machine gun or sniper rifle, you lose that leg or arm.

- Headshots WILL kill you

- This isn't like COD or any other FPS, you get shot you will bleed to death unless you get your wounds treated by a medic.

- If you get shot in the leg don't expect to run anywhere, you get hit in the arm you accuracy WILL be affected.

- You can try to use the COD run and gun method, but you'll die pretty quickly, real tactics have to be used to succeed at this game.

- Enemy AI will flank you even when you are trying to flank them, suppressing fire is a must.

- There is a 24 hour weather cycle, but no rain unfortunately.

- There is no jump button, but you there is an interact button that will allow you to jump over small obstacles, vault fences, enter buildings.

- You can swim but only on the surface.

- This is intended to be a real - life combat simulator, so the whole island is open and nothing is scripted, just like in the GTA games. So if you are on a mission and decide to leave your squad somewhere to go it alone don't think you'll get very far, enemy patrols will find you and kill you without your squad there to support you.

- Finally, your gears weight will affect how you move, so if you go for a machine gunner loadout don't expect to be able to run as fast as your lighter squad mates armed with M4's and vice versa. Oh and there is no such thing as infinite running, if you are laden down with a 249 and loads of ammo you'll run a significantly shorter distance than if you have an M4.

The head developer has stated in the latest press release that the weapon's accuracy is top notch however it's really hard to actually kill people until you have tons of practice just like in real life. So don't expect to be getting head shots all the time when you first start playing it.

Yea I was being totally sarcastic, but as you can tell CW is REALLY into this game and wrote a huge post.

This game just looks too hardcore for me. I pride my self at being a good shot and predicting my enemies moves in the COD series. This game would be like going from grammar school to high school. I still like being the popular kid. I would get pwned playing OFP. I am no military strategist and to be honest I am overwhelmed at these game trailers...The games comp AI seems ok, kinda like something I can get used to. My team crawls through some grass then pops up, looks into a window form 50 yards sees some inferred people and cleans um out. Sure I can manage that...But human AI, is worlds apart. I don't think I would stand a chance playing something like this online.

How is online played?- Is it like my team vs your team. I lead a squad and you lead a squad.or- My team (5+ friends) go against your squad (5+friends)?

A, B and C are awesome. At one point I thought up of these and wanted them implemented in HC modes of COD/MWD) What is suppressing fire?E) What is a 24hr weather cycle?F) AWESOME IDEA! NO GLITCHING!

G) Ssssick! Probably to HC for me though.

Ok a squad is usually comprised of 5-10 guys depending on the unit, suppressing fire is when you send a fire team (2-3 guys) on a flanking movement and lay down heavy fire with either a 249 or an M240/M60 to get the enemy troops to get their heads down so that you can flank them with your fire team and kill them/capture them.

A 24hr weather cycle means just that you will be playing on 24 hr days (day to night to day) I'm guessing the weather cycle means that there will be weather to contend with, but with no rain in the game I don't quite know what this means.

As far as the MP goes, I don't quite know what that will be comprised of, I do however know that the AI will be in play so if that means squad versus squad or squads vs enemy AI I have no idea.

Since this is being made by Codemasters (who brought you GRID and both DIRT games, the lead programmer has also stated that vehicles will kick up dirt and mud that will stick to the vehicles just like it does in DIRT and I suspect the damage model and vehicle controls will be much the same, particularly with the Humvee and jeeps. I also want to add that EVERYTHING in the game is destructible from vehicles to buildings to trees, much like in Crysis. So if you have a group of enemies in a building and want to make your own door just fire a rocket or HE grenade at the side and voila your own personal doorway.

I'm super psyched for this game, the draw distance in this game is suppose to be insane and i heard it will take 9 hrs just to walk from one side of the island to the other! I love realistic war games and though i am a huge fan of battlefield and CoD, i was extremely let down with Socom, and hopefully this can fill that void of a realistic war game. I'm in MAG beta btw, and to be honest, not too impressed, all my bets are on OFP

Pre-Release Demo confirmed, I think I read on the OFP official website that they are releasing the demo on Sept 24th, as far as if it will have multiplayer or just a taste of the single player I don't know. They have also confirmed DLC in the not so distant future with a chance of the Map Editor and more MP and Co-op gameplay modes coming to the consoles via DLC.

CW, just checked out the videos you posted recently...WTF! Talk about sick! Free reign on the maps but it would take you 9hrs! WOW. INSANE. I am loving this game so far. I am going to give it a legitimate chance, I am going to rent it. I also love that the PC and console versions are the same (except the editor).

The fact that they have canceled the demo has made a lot of people very very unhappy. They are going to release a demo but it's for PC only after the release and it will be a MP demo. Personally I think this is stupid, they haven't exactly been marketing it like all the other games out there, so it will only have a very small following of die hard fans, which will be good to a point in the MP, but at the same time bad because unless you know a couple of people who have the game, you'll be forced to do co-op missions with complete strangers. Personally I hope the market the isht out of it after release like they've been doing with DIRT 2. I do believe the reviews were supposed to be released today, which means they are hopefully close to going gold, and the worries of a last minute delay will be squashed.

French gaming review gave the game a 9/10 score with gold award. saying

"It is filthy, it is tactical, it is deadly and a split second could be the difference between life or death. No this game isnt for softies. This game will cost you blood, sweat and tears, but eventually the statisfaction is immense."

From what I am seeing around the net, this games is getting 9/10's in every review so far, which brings in the question as to why the canceled the demo on the consoles entirely and are postponing the PC demo until after launch "to polish up the game" If the game is getting as high remarkks as it is then why do they need to "polish"the game? I'm just a little salty that there won't be a pre-release demo on the consoles as I have been anxiously waiting for it to come out to satisfy my tactical military sim needs until the game is released. Oh well either way I have this on pre-order and will be playing it the day it comes out, unfortunately my surround sound still isn't hooked up and until I can get to it I have to play with the surround sound built into my tv. May need to go get those Hard Candy headphones before the game comes out.
