Yea, that'd be nice....would solve the whole R33 issue, wouldn't it?

Course, I'm partail to the R32 & think the NHTSA should just relax and realize that not EVERYONE who wants to bring over a Skyline is a corrupt jerk like Hiro was.

But they do have a point in that only the R33 was crash-tested, and Nissan Japan themselves said that there were enough chassis differences that the R32 would need its own crash testing.

Truff.

But from what I've heard from people involved so far, it's a LOT harder than you'd think.

It' not just the computer that has to be developed, but all the sensors an ways to install them all over/in the motor and trans.

And I'm sure that's just part of it all.

More a matter of the money.

With all the hoops and pleading and crap, it's just far too expensive to get the conversion authorization.

JK Tech already had it (as the ones who developed Motorex's conversions), and even they gave up trying to get authorization under their own name.

If nothing else, NHTSA has basically black-balled it. The whole 96-99 R33 import VCP is only because they had no legal grounds to deny that part. But the conversion authority is strictly up to them.

thats a dawm shame, i still dont understand why a car is so hard to legaly own here, but any numb nuts with an id can buy a submachine gun, sniper riffle(i know second adment)why all this trouble over a modern car ive seen real junk driving down the road, a 500hp viper, 680hp lambo ge-yer-doe. WHY WHY NOT the r32,r33,r34

Bad analogy, as NOT any "numbnuts" can buy a submachine gun.

That requires a Class III FFL permit which has pretty much as many hoops and fees to jump through as getting an import car brought over, plus extensive background investigation.

But yes, it's annoying that you can buy cars just as fast here, but can't bring them over. But the Viper and USDM Lambos are built to the US safety & emission regulations from the factory. The Skyline isn't.

If the car is over 25 years old, nothing. If the car is under 25 years old, full NHTSA/EPA regs must be met.

the 21 year old rule is in Canada, but the US is still 25.

You need to meet all FMVSS requirements. You would need to petition the 1989 cars. There are some big issues, that I know answers to, but not going to give that information away for free.

Just a thought on OBD2

Z32's passed and used OBD2.

RB25 guys use Z32 ecus so they can use nistune to tune their cars.

Z32 ecu, sensors, emission controls, wiring + RB = obd2 compliant skyline.

It it really that hard? You can even use J30 ecus which are getting very common in junkyards.

I am in the process of bringing mine back from Okinawa. Any help would be appreciated. I found an RI in Washington where I will be stationed who is willing to do the work, no prices as of yet. I need to check out that 300Z OBDII thing. What is the deal with the airbags?

i cant believe that nobody has tried to argue our rights. I mean cant i say that owning a skyline is my personal pursuit to happiness or that its freedom of expression? I know its a long shot but its worth a try, but i think its ridiculous that the government can stop me from driving a car because of its safety. I think if i wanna risk my life driving the car of my dreams that should be my decision and not the governments, i mean sure if i was to get in a accident, odds are i would probably die, but i should be allowed to take that risk if i want too.
