If you're just testing to see if power is getting to one plug or the other, just turn the car to "on" all of those wires are hot. the ECU breaks the circuit to force the coil to discharge.

ok so when i turn the car to the on position i should be gettin power to both sides..and the ecu is the one that kills the power by grounding causing it to spark correct?

sry im repeating it im jus tryin to put it into words so i can understand. lol But if thats the case I wasnt getting power to both sides in the first place. Im thinking it might be my ecu now bc i wasnt gettin power to the 5 prong side (ecu) i was only gettin power to the 4 prong side(coils).

Taken from HowStuffWorks.com:Quote »The coil in this type of system works the same way as the larger, centrally-located coils. The engine control unit controls the transistors that break the ground side of the circuit, which generates the spark. This gives the ECU total control over spark timing. [/quote]A link to give you an idea of how the coils work. Yes that's for a single coil distributor system, but the basic principle is the same

question...when i got my harness it had the adapter on it as if there was an after market computer attached to it, but i jus took the adapter off. Do you modify the harness when u attach an after market computer?

Was the adapter plugged into the ECU plug (ie Greddy Emanage adapter harness) or was it spliced into the wiring?

Greddy has you completely sever wires going into the ECU (coil signal wires and injector signal wires comes to mind) so the piggy back can modify the signal before sending it on to the ECU.

If the harness has been hacked into, you can try to repair it. You'll want to pull the whole thing out to make it easier to work on. But its just a matter of matching color to color and making sure no wire is left hanging in the breeze.

i think it was plugged into the ecu plug i still have the adapter at home ill take some pics. I kno they gave me a red top harness instead of a blacktop harness but someone told me that it will work with the blacktop. There were a couple loose wires going to my ecu plug when i got it, I jus connected them by matchin up color. Like i said ill take some pics when i get home. Im ready to jus buy a new harness this is so fustrating..Theres nothing i can think of that im not doing right it has to be something not working properly.

Sorry to thread jack, but this seems to be the same problem with my car. What I don't understand it why when I run a separate line of 12v from the battery directly to the coil pack after the IGN chip, it runs fine. But if I apply the same power BEFORE the IGN chip i get no spark. I've thrown another working IGN chip in my car and that doesn't make a difference, and even put my chip in someone else's SR and it runs fine. I'm convince the problem is where that blue/red wire comes off the battery, but I'm not sure. And and I AM getting continuity for each wire to and through the IGN chip. Anyone have some helpful advice?

Update: got the car running last night, turns out that blue/red ignition wire was not connected with the black/red wire...a wiring goof from my brother. Just glad everything is running well! Can't wait to have some fun with this thing!
