Sorry i know this has been asked a hundred times, but here it goes...I have a '89 with the KA24E, its been in the "shop" since may and I've had it, im picking it up on Friday, the problem I'm having is i can go out and start it, runs fine until it hits about operating temp and shuts down, its then nearly impossible to start again, usually a few days and the mechanic can walk out and it will start right up, now he checked all the usual problem areas, vacuum, fuel, spark, compression, even checked the cat to see if it was building up to much back pressure, I don't know what else he did but said he doesn't know where to go from here so I'm going to get it and it'll have to sit till i get back from school(late in may) any help would be great...

Have you checked the codes on the ECU, you may have a bad sensor somewhere.

Ok my friend here is the answer you so desired.......coolant temperature sensor.....Sound like exactly what you were describing......

Had the same issue with my tt supra....Did the same thing,,,,,,

A cts will actually tell the ecu to provide a no-start condition to prevent overheating....
