If you mean by old school, 1980's/early 90's cars, other than a 240sx, that won't break you bank account, there are plenty of fun choices out there

84+ Vette. Nothing like old fashioned Detroit pig-iron. Audi Quattro Coupe (very fun, and soon to be collectible)

Previous generation Supra - Fun car

300zx very fun and keeps you in 'da family

2nd Generation RX7 - pricey to repair, but great sports car

Older BMW 3 series - I know several guys that make these into low buck track cars. Very tossable

Miata - very cheap, very fun,

944 - Of course, but not cheap to maintain

Used Saleen Mustang. (a real one, not a stickered GT) If you can find one that's not beatup, they can very quick and satisfying despite being a mustang .

I could keep going.

The best 300 made 88 find an SS and your there..

lsd higher compression turbo motor and the identical transmission to the twin turbo transmission..
