Wait wait...... I thought the US release was going to be Celica GTS powered. I'd much rather have the GTS engine rather than the B18 in there...... assuming I ever got one.

True.... but i think the ITR engine kind of lacks torque.... actually I'd think the 3sgte would be a nice addition.... but for weight conciousness I'd pick the SR20DET to put in there.... *drool*

[EDIT] by the way, sorry for hijacking the thread......

we need to do a ASL Garaiya vs Lotus Elise in the general chat.

BTW, the ASl is powered by a 204hp SR20vet and is midship mounted.

I'm not sure how to explain it, but it is an advanced variable timing system.

Rather have an Exige though... open tops don't do anything for me.

im not sure I dont know enough about it but it has a nissan heart, that always counts more :D :pface

The fact that it has never been produced before is not a plus, but it is handbuilt. (the elise is?) I was solely comparing horsepower.

They have had a track model in the US for a while power by the B18 (but its not street legal) The US street version due april of next year will also be 1.8 liter but i belive the motor is made by a company called Rover. It will look difforent then the one that was previously released too: http://66.221.154.235/lotus.html

Why do people automatically think newer when they think Muscle car? I know when I hear muscle car I automatically think of 60's cars...which are frieking awesome! And they can look VERY good. Oh well, Someday I'll have one AND my import :)

There is one car I would take over my 240. A Corvette Z06. 405 h.p., 12.60 e.t. 1/4 mile STOCK. Oh and can it handle. 1.01g's on the skidpad. Don't like what I'm saying? Go test drive one. Just sitting in it will have you feeling what american muscle has become! Btw..... my friend took one up to 166 m.p.h. in fourth gear!!!

There are like, a lot of post, so I didn't read them all.

Anyway. If you want a Stang, go for it. Like you said, you can make a good bit more power, cheaper. Plus the stang is the only Ford I would buy.

A year ago, I would have said SR240 all the way, cause Stangs are a dime a dozen. But the 240 is wanting to become the new me too car. "I got a 240." "Me too." " I got and SR." "Me too." So originallity is out.

The reason I like the modded imports, is taking a car that isn't fast and making it fast. "It's not suppose to do that, but this one does."

If you get a domestic, I say forget the Stang or Camero. Get a Vette or Grand National. Now there is some style. GN-T

I have a friend locally that just put in an order for an Elise. I believe they're coming next year. He goes to the track often so thisd would become his track/play car. I like Loti a lot but have no desire to own one. Too fragile and unreliable.

I agree with Nathan on this one, although the Elise is a badass car and Corvettes are decent, when i hear "muscle car" i think right away about Novas, Chargers, old mustangs, Baracudas, dart's and so forth, but i guess "muscle car" can mean its own thing to everyone

A 240 can be made much faster than a Z06 for the same price ;)

Anyways, ive driven a car much MUCH faster than a Z06. Funny thing is that car only made 86hp but would go 0-60 in under 4 seconds, and corner at over 1.3g's. Sucks it doesn't have enough gears to complete the 1/4mile, this year were adding another gear so it can get over 100mph (still wont have enough gears to do the 1/4 mile). Granted the car is built for autocross it is still impressive none the least. Did i mention it used a 600cc (.6 liter) 4 cylinder honda motor?

A big *** motor doesnt meen anything...

yeah I meant mostly older muscle cars... like a project hemi couda or challenger or chevelle or mustang or or or or... I dont even really think of newer muscle because they're really expensive and out of my range... I could buy a beat up chevelle for under 3k no problem and build it up over the years to be a MONSTER that is also worth a good amount of money (as opposed to SRd 240s and the like, where you'll hardly ever even get your money back outta them... ) but then again we're talking about working on cars, not investments...

As far as Lotuses, my uncle has this early 70's Lotus Elan just sitting under his house covered and dust and primered with storage boxes on it and stuff... he says he'll pass it down to me one day.... ohhhh that car is beautiful.

Yeah a corvette is hella expensive $50,000 ,but its still awesome. A little nos and you could hit 11.5's easy. Drive one. Like turbo? You could try the Lignfelter 427 Ls6 twin turbo kit. 1200b.h.p. Sure its another $50,000 but it's the ultmate bang for the buck. That car hit an 8.90 sec e.t. on drag radials and 92 oct. an still can pull a G.I can't have one yet, that's why I have a 240 , close but no cigar. $5000 later I'll be doing 12's too.

Anyway back on the subject. Stock old muscle cars handled like crap. Its because of their suspension and their g-string tires. But today we can fix all that. I can get a 69' camaro (one of my favorites) put a 4-link on it , coilovers all around , fat sway bars (f/r) and some 18'' rims with good tires, brake upgrade. It could go toe 2 toe with any import. All i'd have to work on is it's fat a**. Good thing for drag racing. I can get fiberglass anything , light till you crash.

Isn't an Elise like 45 grand. It is a Lotus, no? 1.8L 135 h.p. (base) 14.4 e.t. is pretty good. Now imagine a 220 horse one. omg.

I'm going to sell all my worldly possesions to put a downpayment on this car. If it comes with an engine that comes even remotely close to 200hp..... it'll come out of the factory with incredibly potential.

When someone says muscle car you don't say handleing. They do not go. I was at the drag strip this weekend and saw some awsome old muscle cars. I wouldn't want to daily drive one, but I'd sure like to build one as a project car/ weekend fun car.

yeah exactly. they're built for a different purpose than what we're building our cars for. you dont restore a 67 shelby GT500 and then drive it to work everyday.... that's just plain disrespectful.

why didn't i buy a drag car? because i drive the car everyday, and i need my car to have and do things that a muscle car doesn't. things like a good a/c and heater, over 10 mpg, handles relatively well, and i can make it have more than enough horsepower to satisfy me on a daily basis (eventually im looking to make about 350 rwhp with not too much turbo lag). also, i dont agree with the idea of making a car fast by putting in a large engine. not to say that it isn't effective, because it is extremely effective, it just isn't my style. basically it is all preference, if you are looking to be the fastest drag car out there, you shouldn't be at the 240 forums unless you are trying to be different, because go to any drag strip and the fastest cars are usually domestics.
