Im gonna do it myself...

I am also looking at the V3 system that is internally lubricated... So i don't have to drill into the oil pan... =)

Shouldn't take more than a day plus the tune!

Does anyone know what a tune Cost?

I know of a place here in tampa that does Nissans and has a tv show... Called Z Fever....

Hey DJ - You'll love it!

Here's my install article, read it first: http://www.nicoclub.com/articl...shtml

Also, and I CAN NOT stress this enough: DO NOT plan on retaining the tuning solution that Vortech provides. Go with something else. The Split-Second box is notoriously wonky (IF it works at all), and the sketchy little supplemental fuel pump is silly (if that thing loses power or fails, it's new engine time).

Spend a little more, get a Walbro in-tank, some bigger injectors (cheap through Deatschwerks) and a REAL tuning solution. I'm using ProEFI.

AZhitman...

I did look over your install and you did a great job...

I have a few questions... Would I be able to leave the bumper on and just remove the mesh inserts at the bottom of the bumper...

It is the V3 system so no need to drill oil pain... This is the only thin that I couldn't do!

It is also the turner kit so i will be taking it to Z Fever here in tampa to get it tuned....

I got it for 3300... and the guy lives in orlando so its about a 2 hour drive...

It is also brand new and never installed.... Found it on ebay last night and couldn't pass up...

I think it cost about 400 bux to get it tuned...

I want to have it tuned so that it is efficient and safe....

I will keep you guys posted....

Thanks brother -

Keep in mind, the intercooler will be COMPLETELY obscured by the stock front bumper. In fact, you won't see it at all. No airflow. I had considered fabbing some ducts for the 2 stock openings to redirect air, but they'd be a 90-degree angle... Not very efficient.

No sense removing the mesh, as those ducts won't do anything for your airflow anyway. Look for a bumper with a center opening.

If it's the tuner kit, you're going to have to ADD some sort of engine management. Tuning it on a dyno is fine, but you'll need a UTEC or something. Plan on more than $400 - that sounds like just labor and dyno time.

OK this guy at Z Fever told me that it would be 900 to tune and dyno... Fine...

But he said I also need larger injectors and other crap... I know this isnt' right....

Maybe I can continue to look elsewhere for a tune?

Got any ideas?

He did say that included in the price they use the stock ECU and Flash it with the New Tune.... He told me that the stock ECU is the best and no need to waste money on that!

YOU WILL NEED BIGGER INJECTORS

If you want to do it up right, I would really listen to AZ.. he lives, eats and breathes these things..

Ummm, no. To my knowledge, this doesn't work. Make sure they've done VQ tuning.
Tampa G35 Sedan 6MT wrote:But he said I also need larger injectors and other crap... I know this isnt' right....DJ
While not mandatory, it's a good idea. The stockers weren't designed to flow substantially more fuel. You're adding 8psi of airflow, remember. The fuel has to come frmo somewhere.

A "tuner" kit comes with no engine management, thus the "smoking deal". Not really such a bargain.

Don't feel bad - There's simply no way around it. You're not going to get away with boosting a VQ reliably for $3500.

So if i don't have to change the injectors then I would rather not...

I don't track the car so it wouldn't be used at WOT very often....

I am really going for the TQ that you gain... That is what the G is missing!

The place I called had been doing nissans for 20 years and the 350z and g35's since they came out...

They said most do turbos now but I like the supercharger better!

So if i paid 3300 for the kit and then spend 900 on the tune... Im still at4200 and that isn't bad! Right...

Guys I really need the input as I wanna pull the trigger and get the ball rolling on this thing...

Thanks for all your help..

That's not the point. I see WOT 10x every time I drive. It only takes once. And detonation can occur even at part-throttle.

I stil don't see anything about what they're going to use for engine management. I think you need to find out what they have in mind.

I mean, you don't even have the Split-Second box (which Vortech provides). What are you going to use? Not the factory ECU, for sure.

What are you using for added fuel delivery? How are you managing fuel pressure? Not the factory FPR, that's for sure.
Tampa G35 Sedan 6MT wrote:Guys I really need the input as I wanna pull the trigger and get the ball rolling on this thing...
What more input do you want? You still need to buy more parts and map out this project.

I hate to be a "wet blanket", but having built a few boosted cars, I'm not seeing any planning here. Simply buying a kit is the easy part.

It is this kit from the Vortech Website

4NZ218-128L

Tell me what you think....

It does have a black box that has some wires... I think that is the FMU

Tells us nothing.

However, from the Vortech "Systems" page (note emphasis):

These configurations are designed for those qualified tuners or race shops who do not require the fuel managements items included in our standard systems. Among the items excluded are fuel pump, fuel injectors, FMU, air-inlet assembly (T-Trim models) and ECM programmer or timing controller.

So, you need a fuel pump. You need injectors (or you need a way to max out the ones you have). You need an FMU, and engine management.

I'm trying to help out here, but you really need to do some more research and educate yourself on this stuff, brotha. That's an expensive car to be throwing parts at.

The price you got is wholesale pricing, so it's not a "smoking" deal.

The seller is very clear. All the hard parts are there, but those aren't the expensive bits (except for the head unit). The rest is cheap.

The reason it's such a "good deal" is there's no FMU, no engine management, no fuel pump, etc. You're still gonna need a new front bumper as well. And paint. And installation.

Thanks to this thread, I now have a bruise on my forehead.

But if it saves YOU from a headache down the road, then I can sleep well tonight.

Yes... I think you might have saved me....

I don't want a new Bumper... and i don't want to spend over 4500...

I don't want to replace the injectors....

Why does vortech advertise that it is like a bolton kit?

This is the line that has me confused...

Fuel management upgrade includes a high-flow fuel pump and fuel management unit (FMU) Stand-alone Piggy Back ECU is NOT INCLUDED!!!!!!

I read this and got that ECU is not included...

Again thank you for all your help!

I'm still new to Nissan/Infiniti, but I was wondering... does someone just make a kit that comes with the fuel delivery upgrades and required software tuning?

I installed a S/C kit on my BMW about a year ago, and it came with everything I needed from larger injectors, plumbing, new spark plugs, appropriate sensor upgrades, etc. and I sent my ECU in to get flashed with a proven semi-custom tune specific for my car. BTW, I am also running a Vortech V3, it's a mild kit though ~6lb boost. Anyway, the car started right up, ran flawlessly, and has been completely reliable ever since. I've never had to touch or adjust a single thing after the install. Personally, I wouldn't try to piece a kit together. I would definitely opt for a package with a proven track record that others have installed successfully before me. That's worth the extra money for me to save time, frustration, and possible disaster if something isn't calibrated correctly. IMO, my Bimmer is way to nice of a car to take chances with, and so is your Infiniti. Save up a few extra bucks and do it right...the first time.

Couple pics after the install...

Yea I know... Its not the money that is really the problem...

Its that I need it to be reliable.... I can't have anything go wrong with the car...

It only has 10k on the new motor trans clutch and flywheel!

My main concern was reliability also. I wouldn't have gone with any FI kit that didn't have a solid history of trouble-free performance. That's also exactly why I would stay away from a tuner kit. I needed to have everything in 1 box that was required for the install. I also needed to do it once and not have to worry about contacting several different sources for tuning, troubleshooting, and fuel delivery solutions. If money isn't an issue then definitely seek a company that makes a proven product that you can install, one and done. This also gives you a single (expert) contact for any questions you have along the way. Go with a proven kit and you'll be as happy with your decision as I am with mine.
