Mine is jbwelded in the oil pan. Going to relocate it to my oil block whenever I get remote oil filter/cooler.

It should be about 10-15 above coolant temp.

I read mine at the oil pan, welded fitting.

Oil coolers are good, but they should be thermostat controlled. You want your oil and coolant temp to be in proportion.

i'll probably look into an oil cooler over the winter (funds short now)

You could, those sandwich blocks are usually a good spot for connecting a pressure gauge, but you could use that fitting for temp. Your better off using that fitting for pressure, getting a real water temp gauge, and putting the oil temp gauge in the oil pan. Just gotta drill a hold and weld a fitting on.

alright. because right now i have my temp and pressure senders in the filter adapter. usually around city though it never shoots past 200*F though, but i'll check it the next few days to be sure.

yea city driving never went over 210*F. i mean is there any significant damange if my oil temp gets over 250*F? I just recently found out that im going to have to do alot of highway driving.

heres a couple pics. one of just the temp and one of temp/press.

the temp was at that after about 20 to 30 minutes of back road driving at 50mph. i read somewhere that the oil temp should be 30-40*F higher than the coolant temp? Anyone think i should be overly concerned about a highway drive with temps like this?

If you're taking your reading from a pressurized spot, it probably won't be accurate. Try running your oil temp sensor into the bottom of your oil pan. It will be at peak temp there, too.

210 is too high for normal driving. You should be down in the 190 area.

i have hit 185 when driving my car hard in the heat. my temp sensor is on my oil filter adapter although i don't know what it would be at the track yet.

normally its around 170

but i have an oil cooler from an rx7, which in combination with my oil pan means my car takes 6 quarts of oil. the rx7 oil cooler looks like a small intercooler and has an internal thermostat (set to 170).

pimp s*** it is.

alright, sounds like this winter im getting an oil cooler and having my oil pan fitted with a fitting for the temp sensor. Thanks guys. I'll just drive it like it is and not worry about it then. as long as i have pressure i should be ok.

For the oil cooler, imma just wrap up the Isis SR20 kit off Enjuku and get a Greddy thermostat adapter.

You and me both lol.

You need to run an oil thermostat, you can build your own kit.

Just get a nice cooler, AN fittings, a thermostat, and some heat wrap.

My LS6 runs warm.. Coolant is running up to 225 after running a while, and my oil creeps up to match of coarse. So I just spend a ton on better fans, cooling panel, and I will be adding an oil cooler. Cooler oil will also cool the motor overall, you should see a coolant drop as well.

i thought about building my own, but the cost would almost be the same as just buying parts that are ready to be installed. plus i've never made SS lines with fittings before so i feel safer spending the $$ on the Isis Oil Cooler and buying a Greddy Oil sandwich w/ thermostat. i think it'll be like $350 tops all together so its not that bad. Thanks again guys.

Ugh... I spent so much dough on keeping my 26 cool.

wow, 100+ bucks for an oil thermostat. i live in southern california and dont realy feel that it i needed one when doing my oil cooler as im usualy wearing shorts and sunglasses for x-mas. ive heard some good things about that new ISIS product at enjuku. they say that their intake manifold is supposed to be a pretty good alternative to the 400 dollar more greddy manny.

240sxmotoring has something like that but it is built into the filter housing. They come in either just for an oil cooler setup (sandwitch style) or cooler and remote filter setup (need an oil block).

So your looking at around 700 bones for a full filter relocate and cooler setup. Which is still cheaper than the Greedy kit and your not limited to the lenghts supplied in the kit so you can mount it anywhere and just have custom size lines made.

yea im not really looking into a filter relocation, i dont really see the need, as this is mainly a street driven car, and having fun on the side. Thanks for the research though!

Then you can just get the sandwich adapter and run an oil cooler off that, done.

But as said above, if your oil temp sensor is in a pressurized spot aka anywhere but the oil pan basically, it might read improperly.

Yep, a sandwich plate is the easiest way to do it.

Make sure you're running nice AN-10 or AN-12 fittings from the sandwich plate to the cooler. You don't want to create any more resistance for the oil pump to deal with.

Here's what my system looks like:

yup, took my car for a drive on the highway for probably 20 minutes and buried the oil temp gauge so im thinking its not accurate lol. the water temp stayed perfect.

the oil flter relocation is convenient on an sr, the filter is burrid under the intake mani. now its right out in the open, i appreciate it every time im doing my oil change.but if u do end up doing an oil cooler/relocation kit, id recomend doing it custom so u wont be restricted with the location of the cooler or filter reloaction. u can just cut the hose lengths as long as u need them based on where u want to mount the cooler and whatot.ve never realy heard anything about taking temp degrees from a pressurizd spot. i have mine coming from the oil filter relocation plate. maybe i should look into that one

How large of an oil cooler are you going with?
