Hi I just had a redtop sr20 installed into my coupe and the oil pressure ready from my defi gauge is 10psi at idle but when I rev it up the pressure doesn't go above 20psi. The motor doesn't make any ticking noises like there is low oil pressure. Does anyone have any idea what the problem could be.

It may be a problem with the oil pressure sending unit. I would connect an analog pressure gauge to check actual pressure.

Also check the oil pan. Make sure its not bashed in.

I've also heard that the pick-up screen can get clogged, is that true?

It can, if it is clogged, you most likely have bigger problems, as the only things that can clog it are metal (BAD), or cooked oil, also bad, but not as end of the world. Either way it can be cleaned out, but there are often bigger problems.

I read about that somewhere I can't remember. But every 22R I've been into has had timing chain guide chunks stuck to the screen and in the pan.

Thats funny because Ive been around quite a few 22R/22REs, and Ive never actually torn one down. This probably has something to do with the fact that they never die.

Whats a 22r/22re?

I dropped the oil pan today and found that the oil pick up had in fact made contact with the pan because of the scratches in the black paint in the pan. I took a hammer and pounded it out a little bit, hopefully this solves the problem I also noticed oil residue around the stainless still oil feed line going to the turbo. I'm going to bring it back to the shop and have them fix this since I paid a shop to do the labor on the sr20 install. It just sucks because i swapped this redtop in from a blacktop because the blacktop was having oil pressure problems.

Thanks for the input guys I dropped the oil pan and pounded it out with a hammer. The oil pressure is normal now. But I think there is a boost leak or a vac. leak somewhere cause it dies after boosting and then coming to a stop.

DIY Boost leak tester should help you find your leak.

Any engine that has ever sat on it's pan should be checked. Something slammed down on a pallet and shipped across the world should probably have the pan replaced. By the way, too much RTV squished in when installing a new oilpan can drop into the pan and get stuck on the pickup screen as well.
