Why I said 6 psi S/C outlet [would compress air 39.6%] but the parasitics draw 20 HP or so at 6500 engine rpm and the intercooler would drop 1 psi and the still uncooled extra heat [50-55F] drops things [density] by 5% so you are sure to net 20%.

By the way if you study the VE efficiency drop off of the 2002 Q engine you find 17% drop from 4,000 to 6,400 so a radial supercharger would not over stress the rods [3% plus the unseen 20 HP parasitic loss: 32HP/torque not even 10% over stock. The greatest stress is at the torque peak as the max BMEP occurs then.

Surprisingly the torque at the 6500 rpm shift point would still be barely inside the JATCO 5 speeds 340 lb/ft limit.

Now an axial [constant boost] not rpm dependent S/C is an entirely different and more stressful situation.

The peak HP would be a little lower due to extra heating and more parasitic loss but the torque at 2500> 5,000 would be higher like 20% minimum and stressful.

I think we'll see a 6 psi supercharged Z/G35 soon maybe an M45.....love MB AMG for raising the bar.......nice to see that over 18,000 G35 have been sold [shipped to US].

Wish they would figure out how to shrink a 6 psi S/C by just 25%!

Is the VK45DE a closed deck engine, like the VH45DE or open deck?

Fred...:)

The VK45DE is open deck, as one can see at the Impul site.

I'm thinking of installing the Amsoil double guard filter above the small plastic shield on the right side of the engine. The only disadvantage is it only accessable from underneath. But there appears to be enough room to use the bigger filters. So I probably wouldn't need to change the oil and or filters more than once a year. Plan to use Series 2000 0-30W with a quart or two of 20-50W missed in. A friend is using this and claims to get significantly better mileage now.

Oil pressure at the bearings is a function of viscosity of the oil at the temperature you are experiencing. The temperature should not be lower than 180F and no higher than 220F for optimum life.Pretty foolish to experiment against factory recommendations without accurate pressure and temperature gauges installed [both mounted at the same point- where the oem sender was].

The Q is spec at 14 psi minimum warmed up [coolant stablized at 176-180F] at idle and 67-81 psi at 3,000 rpm . If you meet these numbers you can use any oil viscosity you want! If you are just interested in warm performance.Even a 0w30 synthetic may produce less than 14 psi at warm idle.

Mixing viscosities should be carefully done and only of the same brand.

According to the Amsoil techical rep. the remote filter will not effect oil pressure. I figured adding a couple of quarts of their 20-50 racing oil to the 0-30W Amsoil recommends would get it close to the OEM recommended 10-30W?
