NOT TRUE

It is true there are only 2 can sizes used by Nissan. Within those can sizes, there are 2 seperate depths of threads.

One depth sets the threads half an inch further into the filter can. I was given the wrong filter for my SR 2 years ago. I got the filter from Nissan, and the cans were identical.

The filter will thread on correctly, but will not engage enough threads to be safe. I just happened to have a friend helping me with my oil change that day, and he didnt notice how little it threaded on. I got 2 miles into my test drive and I lost all oil pressure. When I investigated, I found the filter resting on my sway bar, oil everywhere.

I towed the car home, and dug in. Luckily no damage was done to the filter adaptor, all it did was rip the threads out of the filter itself.

Another trip to Nissan told me that I was given the filter for a B14 sentra, as apposed to the B13 Se-R I had asked for. I also found out that the employee who had screwed up, had been fired two days prior.

They gave me $60 for oil (Amsoil), and they gave me 10 free filters. I lucked out, and didnt do any internal damage.

For reference, I run the larger can size filters.
