There's no need for name calling.

No manufacturer is going to sell a performance part without a dyno sheet proving that it's faster. This doesn't really prove anything unless it can be independently verified though.

Yeah that was a little out of line slow. Attacking members is a good way to get banned.

I was checking my oil this morning (a new ritual) and it looks like I could change the filters back and forth in just a few minutes. I may try it in the dark.

Also I've put about 400 miles on it this week since my oil change Sunday and so far no oil consumption.

just another 1/8th? might as well add another quart....bigger oil pan! Or do what I did and do pan and oil cooler. My car holds roughly 6.5 quarts (haven't measured it to the drop, after 6 I just keep adding a little until I reach full) with the pan/cooler/ and cooler lines. I never have burning problems (Using Mobil 1....may try R Purple one of these days)

Oh and btw.....+1 on doubting the hot intake air has much to do with it. good luck!

Its been a little over 1000 miles since I changed my oil. Its still full, I have not been past the red line since the oil change either. I really really think the oil consumption was from going past the red line in 3rd gear.

I don't know. I hit the redline every day too many times and I have no oil consumption what so ever. Maybe I am just a lucky one. I did not check this time. But before and after oilchange I check my car. Nothing so far. I'll have to take it in before Xmas and before I take it in I'll check it.

I've been checking every day. If it has any consumption this oil cycle I'll start letting the dealership change the oil and then after a couple changes I'll complain about consumption providing they don't notice it.

It was only about 1/2 a quart so maybe I just didn't get all the oil out of the filter?

Well,

The dealership has been changing my oil now. Oil consumption has stopped.

My best guess is the previous lease/owner ran regular oil and the motor had worn to regular oil. I switched to synthetic and the motor wore a little and consumed some oil. Now it is worn to synthetic and stopped consuming oil.

Very interesting either way.

I've only got about 1600 miles on mine, but I just checked the oil - (car has not been run today) It is still at the top line so I guess that there is 0 oil consumption. Yours should be no different?

GWOODS:

To add to your discoveries, i have found that the G-35 Coupe seems to behave differently with different types of oil. It really doesn't matter whther you are using dyno, blend or synthetic--though I find blend to be okay nonetheless. I discovered that the G uses more gas with dyno than with blend, and then with synthetic.

I also notiiced that the first 500 miles after an oil change is the worst for gas mileage. The car literally drinks the gas at that point. So, I try very hard to drive 500 miles on the new oil it so that it can stop consuming gas.

for soem reason, the G takes a while to get used to whatever oil you put into it. I also found that the G is sensitive to the brand of oil you use.

For example, when i use the dealers Pennzoil blend 5w-30, the exhast note on the stock exhaust is somewhat muffled, and I get more torque and less horse power from the engine. When I use Catsrol Synblend 5w-30, I get more horsepower and less torque.

These are just my experiences so far. It is normal for the G to use 0.2 to 0.5 quarts of oil betwen oil changes. especially if you switch oil brands and oil types. The oil weight does not make a difference. However, if you stay consistent with a specific brand and type for a while, it appears the gas mileage and oil burning is somewhat reduced. But most G's don't burn oil, anyway.

I think you're being jipped by the dealership. Using 5w-30 synthetic shouldn't effect the oil levels at all.

I think the dealership is pulling one on you. They probably put 10w-30, a thicker oil...

This will probably work until your warranty is over. Then the oil consumptions will show up again.

Again, this is just me talking out of my azz. Who's know what they did.

What is wrong with you? Seriously?

You have nothing positive to add to any thread.

All you do is go around trying to pick fights? You are responding to a post from 11/15 dumbas$.

Here let me make you happy.

Short Ram intakes make less hp then a stock intake.

My car is slower because of it.

The Infiniti dealership is using a different weight motor oil then the owners manual recommends.

Happy now? Go AWAY LOOSER

Gday,Enough with the damn intake comments....

Gwoods,I've been using royal purple 10w40 in my G since I became the new owner at 5k miles. Never had a problem with that weight. She hasn't consumed a drop of oil, and I'm at 24k now.

I really don't feel like arguing with you and I don't think anybody is happy how you response to any of the threads. I suggest you to change your attitude please. I don't know what motivates you but certainly not friendship. If it doesn't work out just try another forum. You would fitt perfectly at the BMW forum. I have no doubt about it.
