Oh ok, thanks much. In that case I guess the previous owner of my car switched them out with LED's for me, ha. I always noticed how nice they looked but didnt realize they werent OEM, thanks previous owner. I also think my reverse lights are LEDs... are the OEM reverse lights incandescents as well?

Hahaha that's funny. The previous owner on my M did the same thing. Didn't replace the reverse lights though, BUT did have hids in the fogs..granted I changed them but still lol

Well it's official, the previous owner of my car replaced the reverse and license plate lights with LED's. Just checked the reverse today and yup, they're not incandescents (yellowish), what's funny to me tho it's that I could've sworn they were OEM and I cant not even fathom this car with "regular" lights in those spots, especially as expensive as it is.

Freddie, if you're referring to the DRL's they're still yellowish, I really need to change those to LED's and the fog lights to 6000k HID's to match my low beams -I replaced the OEM 4300k for 6000k- and the side markers are orangy when they blink, can we switch those to LED's as well?

Yes but you will probably need to use load resistors or they will blink fast.

You will almost definitely need resistors

Me? Resistors for what? HIDs at the fog lights or side markers?

If you do led turn signals then you will need resistors

Ok, I think we're not on the same page...

I didnt even know we could replace the side markers with LED's, that's why I asked:

Now, what I refer to as "side markers" are on the sides of the car or on the fenders, is that what I need resistors for? Can we even get LED's for those?

Or are you guys talking about the turn signals inside the headlights? The round ones... is that what I need resistors for?

Or are you talking about the light at the little orange strip at the side of the headlights? Is that what I need resistors for? Can we even get LED's for those?

The confusion is usually avoided when you "quote" the question of the person you're helping or responding... it doesnt hurt to quote guys, seriously lol. That's also the reason I had to ask if you guys (Blaze and Ilyakol) were talking to me. Thanks for your help ahead of time.

Hahahaha Blanco ur post made me laugh. Now to answer your question:

The side markers (aka the lights on the sides of the car or on the fenders) blink with the turn signals, so you would need resistors for them if you replaced the regular bulbs in there with leds..

I (and Ilyakol I think) were originally talking about the turn signal (which are inside the headlights). if you changed those, they would also need resistors

Did I clear the confusion?

you only need the resistors if you don't like the hyper flashing.

hyper flashing happens only when you use the turn signals, hazard light work as normal.

I like the hyper flashing mucher better then the slow oem flashing.

The parking light is the only light you can access from the top. It's at the very top of the headlight above the high-beam bulb.

All the other bulbs require access from the bottom, unless of course you have tiny hands.

I was able to also do the front signal light from the top.

if you don't have any kids, look around for other kids on the block and pay them with ice cream. :)

good point, than make sure you have other people around you.

I live in the city and next to a park and kids are up & down the block all day (spring & summer). If my 2 girls can't help I'll ask other kids.

Are you guys upgrading to HID's or upgrading existing HID's with different/higher output bulbs?

Reason I ask - my 06 M35X has OEM HID's (part of the upgrade pkg that the vehicle came with) and the low beams stink. They may just require adjustment (I've looked into it but haven't had time to do it). I've seen similar complaints on this board - 2006-m35-hid-lights-not-bright-enough-t370734.html

My wife hates to drive the vehicle at night - the lows seem to have a very short cut off/very limited throw.

Would be nice to toss in some new bulbs and be able to see reasonably.

Thanks, Gordo

Since your car is OEM HID that means it takes D2S bulbs. I HIGHLY recommend the Phillips 85122 bulbs (there are a couple variations). Best D2S bulbs on the market hands down.

Really expensive too... What is second best?

Looks like those bulbs are only 4300K temperature as well, what is considered the best 6000K temperature D2S bulbs?

Yes, but they last a long time. Another good brand is Morimoto. Phillips has a couple different bulbs that have different kelvin ratings...such as 85122, 85122+, 85122CM, 85122WX, etc.

I was planning to get the Philips 85122WX rebased H1 bulb but TheRetrofitSource.com stopped carrying them.

Because of that, I'll probably get these eventually:

I replaced my OEM phillips bulbs with 6000k 35w bulbs and one of them is brighter than the other, then I tried putting the OEM 4300k Phillips back on and I guess I must've broken one of them because it's not working, so I had to put the 6000k back on, and one side still is brighter than the other. What gives??? I have OEM HIDs on my car.

Also, does anybody have a Phillips OEM light bulb that want to sell to me for cheap?

I can also vouch for Morimoto bulbs. My 5000K D2S bulbs are that brand. I actually wanted Philips 5000K bulbs but couldn't justify the price of them at the time, so I opted for these.
