I'm leaning towards the console...at least until Diablo 3 comes out. Then I'll have my excuse to buy that new PC. Guess that settles it...console it is...lol.
But which one?
The PS3 is technically superior. But the 360 tends to be associated with having a better selection of games overall. This is subjective based on what each person likes so ultimately, the best way to look at it is to decide which games you like and get the one that has the games you want to play.

What kit? All of my 360's can play in HD over component cables that were included with the 360. My Elite can do so through HDMI. All the new 360's have HDMI built-in as well. The only "Kit" I've seen was the one that converts analog component signals to an HDMI signal for the early 360's that didn't come with HDMI. But there is no kit required to play the 360 in HD.

Brian, do your own research on this first. There is a ton of misinformation out there on this topic as things keep changing. MS is pretty agressive in seeking out modded 360's and still have good success at doing so. This is indicative of how well the hardware was designed so that there aren't really any openings for major hardware exploits. The ones I've heard of generally involve replaching the DVD drive's firmware to get around the disc's security features. But it remains detectable.
The only real safe way to do this will likely be to have 2 360's. One to play modded games which remains completely offline. And the other that is unmodded. If you go this route, I'd just find a used one to mod. No use paying full price for a warranty you can't use...
