Since I'm taking both of my sporty cars off the road this winter and buying a beater with a heater that I'm sure to loathe, I had some questions for those of you who have seasonal cars.

What/how much insurance do you typically leave on your car(s) that you're not using? I plan on parking one in the drive way and storing the other in a garage. The area I live in isn't crime riddled or anything of the sort, but in the off chance a tree falls down or someone gets into the garage, I want to be covered. Right now, they're both fully insured, but I'm unsure about what coverage needs to remain on the vehicles while they're off the road for the winter months.

What can you guys suggest?

If you have homeowners insurance, check into the coverage of valuables in the garage. It may cover the car in full. Just read the fine print. For the car in the driveway comprehensive is a must, it will cover trees or hail, that sort of thing, again read the fine print, and select a deductible that's right for you.

You shouldn't need collision or liability coverage because your not driving them.

I leave mine on completely. Insurance is cheap enough so I can take my cars out whenever I fancy a drive.

Why you have full coverage on your Miata is beyond me. In the event something happens, they'll just total it out and give you like $700.

He lives just over the border in Massachusetts. I used to live in Rhode Island, in fact we're meeting up later today for a bachelor party.
Even in the winter there's typically a lot of time when there's no snow on the ground... and even the occasional nice day. The problem is the salt and sand is typically there until around May or June.

I would suggest you chat with your insurance agent for options. In my case, I left them all on, to not only preserve my multi-vehicle discounts, but if my DD gets tied up in a shop, I have spare cars instantly available.

Plus with generally milder winters in the northeast, (thank you global warming) there are plenty of dry winter days that you might want to take out your summer cars for some fun. Unlike a motorcycle, your fun cars can be driven easily on cold days.
