I thought I had, at one point, made a thread about this, but it might have been on the other forum.

My in-dash CD/Radio display doesn't tell me the time. Generally speaking, this is okay; I wear a wristwatch. But it's bugging me. I go into the settings, and it tells me that the clock is on. It's been this way since I bought the car (used). Not sure what the heck's going on; I'd take it into the dealer, but I hit 60000 miles three weeks or so ago.

Any ideas? One solution might be to rip the sucker out and switch to an aftermarket system, but that's a pricey fix to what should be working properly.

Dont you just push "Clock"? I thought that did it for me when I had my stock head unit. Bose or non?

Bose.

I haven't tried resolving this in at least six months, so I might have tried that back then, if I found a "clock" button. I can't recall the layout of my dashboard right now, and my car's a five minute walk away without pay, so...

I had non Bose and there is a "Clock" button in the upper right? corner I think? You push it to turn the clock display on and off, and then hold it to set the clock. Not sure of the Bose set-up but I imagine it to be similar.

However I vote to upgrade to aftermarket! You can get a DECENT basic CD head unit with a front aux input for under $200, sound quality will improve even with stock speakers. Install yourself and save some $$$

After work today, I'll take some pictures. I don't recall a button, but I think I can imagine there being one, so maybe there is. If there is no button, I'll go ahead and navigate through the digital menu to where you can turn the clock on/off. I'm going to be doing some suspension alterations on the car anyways (raising up the coilovers to see if I can alleviate some odd noises that appeared in the past two days), so I'll do it then.

There's no "Clock" button.

Okay. Step 1: Press the "Setup" button.
Image

Step 2: Press the "Clock" menu.
Image

Step 3: Confirm that clock is set to "ON," and hit toggle it a few times to be sure.
Image

Step 4: Ponder as to why the clock still doesn't appear.

And, I just looked it up on the internet, the clock should appear roughly where my phone signal display is:

Yeah thats WAY different from the non Bose. Does your nav still work? Do you actually have to set the time of the clock or does the nav connection set it automatically like a cell phone? If nav isnt working I would ponder if the connection is bunk somehow. Otherwise, Im out of ideas...

I don't have the nav or a back-up camera. Apparently, those are two features in this otherwise fully-loaded car that the previous owner opted not to buy.

I think it might be an automatic thing, but I can't tell. I've never seen the clock show up, so I've never had an opportunity to adjust it, you know?

Maybe that's why. That is definitely the nav unit. It shouldn't need anything other than an antenna. I'm confused as to why nav doesn't function for you. Clearly, there is a nav selection on there, I can see it in one of the pics.

So, maybe I don't have a clock because I don't have sat-nav? That's pretty stupid.

I took it to the dealer a while back, and they informed me that the car was not equipped with satellite navigation or a back-up camera because those are the two features that came with the "technology package" or some such.

I had been suspicious, because the system does have a map, and it tries to estimate where you're going based on where you tell it you've started, your wheel speed, and the direction you steer. But without satellite it gets wrong very fast - especially on the highway.

I was also suspicious because when I put the car in reverse, the screen goes black, as if it's trying to switch to a back-up camera. It was a while ago, but I believe that the dealer told me this was supposed to happen for cars that weren't equipped with the "technology package" or whatever it was called.

Someone is screwing with you. The only way you get that head unit is with the technology package. That head unit isn't an option in the car without the navigation antenna and backup camera. And the screen going black while in reverse means it is connected as I would expect, there's just no video feed to pull from.

It wouldn't surprise me. Many newer sat nav systems pull that info from that satellites. If it can't read the satellite, it can't get a time to display.

Good news is, you might just need an antenna to get navigation up and running. I'll try to look for one.

My fear is that the antenna will be missing in a more severe way, like the back-up camera is. I can see the hole where it ought to be above the license plate, but nothing's in it.

I've read that the wiring runs through the roof, and it might be a huge PITA to replace.

I didn't originally buy it from a Nissan dealership. I bought it from a VW/Audi dealership in MA. The car was also missing foglights when I bought it, and the driver's side harness had been cut. It's made me pretty leery of buying from dealerships anymore...

I'm trying to figure out what the previous owner did. And, more importantly, why.

I'm pretty sure all of the nav equipment is contained within the HU. The worst that could be is that your antenna is entirely missing. But that would only require buying a new one and routing it somewhere on your own. TBH, I have no idea where the OEM nav antenna is placed. Replacing the backup camera would be similar. Just buy the camera, install it on the trunk, and route the wires to the front on your own. Shouldn't be a terrible project if you decide to take it on.

OEM nav antenna is placed in the "fin" on the roof - do you have a "fin" on the roof IB?

Do you have a DVD drive behind the headunit? Press and hold the Tilt button for 5 seconds and see if the DVD-ROM drive is behind there, with a DVD in it.

The 2008 Atlima only yielded the screen when you had the TECH package...I have it in my car, and I have both the backup camera, clock, and NAV.

This sounds like a chop up...all the 3.5's came with fog lights too standard.

I have the fin, so that's promising. Also, there is a DVD slot. I went browsing for an updated map disc a while back, and so I've known that's there.

My assumption with the fog lights was that there was an aftermarket bumper on there. The car came with the OEM bumper, but its paint is noticeably different from the hood and fenders. I saw some corroborating evidence in that the front tires had little life left, and I figured that the kind of person who'd do a FWD burnout before trading in a car is the kind of person who'd also have an aftermarket bumper. And being that there's only one bumper I've seen out there that makes use of the fog lights, it seemed likely to me that the previous owner sold them.

I knew that the 3.5's came with fogs standard, and so, silly me, I didn't think to look at the bumper to make sure they were there when I was checking the car out.

Definately sounds like someone chopped up your car before trading it in. Maybe they had the intention of putting on the ED rear bumper, and couldn't use the camera anymore?

The NAV not working makes no sense though...

I don't believe the stock back-up camera is compatible with aftermarket head units. Maybe that was altered, too - the back-up camera and the navigation systems are banked together, I believe, going up through the A-pillar, to the fin, and down the C-pillar to the trunk.

So, last night when I got back from work, I tried to get this thing to reconnect, but I couldn't find anything in the menus that did it. Am I going to need to remove the head-unit? And is that going to suck balls?

I would take it out to at least see if the antenna is connected. Its not difficult at all, shouldnt take you more than 5 minutes to at least see if your antenna is wired.

I've tried searching. Anyone know if there's a write-up as to how to do this? Or do you guys know?

Pulling out the head unit is easy. Open the bottom storage door about half way, reach up in front of the door and underneath the lower dash plastic and you can get your fingers around the bottom piece of the dash plastic, pull that out, and then you can get your fingers under the edge of the large piece of dash cover, the one that goes all the way up to the vents. Work that out and you'll have access to the head unit.

Good luck with figuring out what the heck happened. Have you looked in the hole where the camera should be to see if there are any wire leads left up in there? Hopefully they are still intact through the car.

I don't think I have the storage space you're referring to. The package my car has includes a CD-changer there.

I haven't really spent much time looking up into that hole; I might do it if I can find time soon.

Ah, yeah I just found a screenshot of the NAV unit on that generation, yeah that is REALLY different from mine. If you can get a finger hold on the bottom piece of dash plastic you can pull it off as I described, if not you may have to somehow get the plastic off of that lower section where the changer is as well.

Can I see a pic of the entire radio/dash/changer? I think you should still have the same basic design as most of us.

Sure, I'll take a shot after class tonight.

I think I felt a small gap at the very bottom of the black dash, just above the CD changer. I started to pull at it, but didn't want to break anything while I still had places to go this week. Also, my battery was still connected.
